Job summary

BimBuildings/ScanPlan is seeking a data science intern to work on 3D data, semantic segmentation, and lidar-driven projects in a small team. You’ll train and test AI models, analyze outputs, and create meaningful visualizations while documenting progress for colleagues and stakeholders.

The role is a flexible, hybrid internship based in Zwolle with opportunities for training, courses, and hands-on experience on real-world scan-to-geometry workflows.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in AI, CS, Math, Stats or related field.
• Experience with Python; C++ is a plus.
• Experience with PyTorch and TensorFlow.
• Familiar with LiDAR and 3D data workflows.
• Linux, Docker, cloud processing (Azure, AWS) familiarity.

Responsibilities

• Assist in training AI models for semantic segmentation on LiDAR and 3D imagery.
• Analyze and process model outputs to create visualizations and graphs.
• Document progress to show improvements in model quality to the team.
• Collaborate with the team to iterate on data processing pipelines.

What Are You Going To Do

At BimBuildings and ScanPlan we develop solutions for converting scans of buildings’ interiors to geometries (scan-to-geometry). The scans are captured by lidar scanners and the data is mainly point clouds (lidar) and sometimes images. Our workflows convert this data to meaningful geometries known as Building Information Models (BIM). You work on the training and testing of AI models for semantic segmentation tasks. You will analyze and process model outputs to create meaningful visualizations and graphs. Your progress documentation gives your colleagues and interested parties the chance to see how your training improves the quality of our AI models.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for a talented data science intern, full- or part-time, to join our small team in Zwolle. The ideal candidate will have a background in computer vision and lidar, as well as a passion for learning and exploring new technologies. You have graduated or are at the final stage of your studies.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics or a related field
• Experience in Python, C++ is a plus
• Experience with PyTorch and TensorFlow
• Familiar with the state-of-the-art AI models and benchmark datasets in LiDAR
• Familiar with Linux OS, Docker containers, cloud processing (Azure, AWS)
• You are a EU citizen or have a work permit in The Netherlands
