This role ensures full compliance with international maritime conventions (ISM, ISPS, MARPOL, SOLAS) and international ISO standards (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001), driving a proactive safety culture, minimizing environmental impacts, and reducing operational risk across vessel and port activities.
Key Responsibilities
1. Safety Management System (SMS) & Compliance
- Support the maintenance and updating of the Safety Management System (SMS) in accordance with the ISM Code, ISPS Code, and SOLAS regulations.
- Monitor compliance with Flag State regulations, Port State Control (PSC) mandates, and International Maritime Organization (IMO) conventions.
- Assist the Designated Person Ashore (DPA) in drafting and auditing safety manuals, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and emergency response plans.

- Assist with preparation and follow-up for external audits, Flag State inspections, PSC inspections, and vetting programs (e.g., SIRE / RightShip).
- Facilitate Job Safety Analyses (JSA) and operational risk assessments for high‑risk maritime tasks (e.g., hot work, enclosed space entry, bunkering, heavy lifts).
- Manage the Non‑Conformity Report (NCR) process, tracking Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) through to verification and closure.
- Receive and log incident, near‑miss, and hazardous condition reports from vessel crews and shore personnel.
- Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for maritime incidents, personal injuries, property damage, and environmental spills.
- Prepare comprehensive incident investigation reports, lessons‑learned safety bulletins, and statistical safety performance metrics (e.g., LTIFR, TRCF).
4. Health, Safety & Environmental Programs

- Coordinate environmental management programs focusing on waste management, energy efficiency, fuel monitoring, and marine pollution prevention.
- Track marine safety performance indicators (KPIs) and compile regular monthly and quarterly QHSE performance reports for management.
5. Training & Safety Culture
- Assist in developing and delivering safety induction programs for new crew members and shore‑based employees.
- Coordinate drill schedules (fire, abandon ship, oil spill, security) and evaluate drill performance onboard fleet vessels.
- Organize safety campaigns, toolbox talks, and continuous training materials to promote a strong proactive safety culture across the fleet.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Certifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Maritime Studies, Marine Engineering, Environmental Safety, Naval Architecture, or related field.

Experience
- 1–3 years of experience in a QHSE role within the maritime, shipping, ship management, offshore, or logistics sector.
