Wirehire is seeking a seasoned Head of Bunker - Logistic to lead our bunker procurement strategy across the fleet. You will drive cost-efficient purchases, ensure regulatory compliance, and manage fuel-quality programs and market volatility.

At least 10 years in maritime bunkering with a strong supplier network is required. The role involves coordinating with vessels, traders, and surveyors and requires fluent English for international communications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in relevant maritime/engineering fields.
• Minimum 10 years in the maritime industry with 5+ years in bunker procurement/trading or marine fuel supply.
• Strong professional network with bunker suppliers, traders, and surveyors.
• Deep understanding of global oil markets and price benchmarks (Brent, Dubai) and pricing mechanisms (Platts).
• Proven negotiation skills with traders and suppliers for favorable terms.
• Technical knowledge of marine engines and fuel quality impacts.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement strategic bunker procurement plans for various fuels (VLSFO, MGO, LNG, etc.).

Head of Bunker - Logistic

Role Overview

The Head of Bunker is responsible for leading the companys fuel procurement strategy across the entire fleet. This role ensures cost-efficient bunker purchasing, compliance with international maritime regulations, and effective management of market volatility risks. The position also oversees operational coordination, supplier relationships, and fuel quality management to support safe and efficient vessel operations.

Key Responsibilities

Bunker Procurement Strategy & Commercial Management

• Develop and implement strategic bunker procurement plans for various fuel types, including VLSFO, MGO, LNG, and other alternative fuels.
• Manage both long-term bunker supply agreements and spot purchases to optimize pricing and supply reliability.
• Monitor global oil market trends and implement appropriate risk management or hedging strategies to mitigate fuel price volatility.
• Establish and maintain strong partnerships with bunker suppliers, traders, and physical suppliers across key global ports.

Operational & Logistics Management

• Oversee bunker delivery planning and coordination to align with vessel schedules and voyage routing, minimizing delays or operational disruptions.
• Ensure accurate fuel quantity delivery through proper coordination with quantity surveyors and bunker measurement procedures.
• Manage and resolve disputes or claims related to fuel shortages, delays, or operational discrepancies.

Fuel Quality & Regulatory Compliance

• Ensure all bunker fuels comply with ISO 8217 standards and MARPOL Annex VI regulations, particularly regarding sulfur content.
• Supervise fuel testing processes through accredited laboratories and manage claims related to off-specification fuel.
• Monitor evolving environmental regulations such as EEXI and CII and assess opportunities for adopting low-emission or alternative marine fuels.

Financial Planning & Performance Analysis

• Prepare and manage the annual bunker procurement budget.
• Track fuel cost performance and provide regular analytical reports on fuel consumption efficiency by vessel and trading routes.
• Support senior management with data-driven insights to optimize fuel usage and cost control.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Transportation Management (KALK), Logistics/Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or Economics.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in the maritime industry, with at least 5 years in a managerial role focused on bunker procurement, bunker trading, or marine fuel supply.
• Strong professional network with bunker suppliers, traders, and surveyors across key operational ports.
• Market Analysis: Strong understanding of global oil markets, including price benchmarks such as Brent, Dubai, and pricing mechanisms like Platts.
• Negotiation Expertise: Proven ability to negotiate effectively with traders and suppliers to achieve optimal pricing and commercial terms.
• Technical Understanding: Solid knowledge of marine engines and the impact of fuel quality on vessel performance and maintenance.
• Communication: Fluent in English, both written and verbal, due to the international nature of bunker trading.
