Job summary

Samudera Indonesia is seeking a Marine Traffic Controller Staff to supervise day-to-day ship operations in Sorong port, ensuring safe, compliant operations and clear coordination with the Ship's Master.

You will monitor vessel movements, analyze data to improve efficiency, manage berthing queues, and direct vessels using VHF radio.

Candidates should have at least 1 year port operations experience, familiarity with AIS/VHF, and basic English to communicate with foreign crews.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of experience in port operations, traffic control, or radio communication.
• Familiar with using marine radios (VHF) and reading basic ship tracking monitors like AIS.
• Possess basic English speaking and listening skills to communicate with foreign vessel crews over the radio.

Responsibilities

• Supervise day to day operational activities related to ship operation.
• Ensure compliance with procedures and regulations to ensure safe operation of ships.
• Manage primary communications link with the Ship's Master and relate with customers.
• Monitor ship movements and cargo transfer operations.
• Analyze ships operational data to improve efficiency and make data-driven decisions.
• Monitor and direct movement of vessels entering and leaving the port to prevent accidents.
• Communicate with ship captains using VHF radio to give traffic instructions and clearances.
• Manage queue of ships waiting to berth or anchor for smooth sea traffic.
• Record all ship movements, arrival and departure times into the daily traffic logbook.
• Support Integrated Management System requirements and risk control within the department.
• Participate in accident investigation processes and information security controls.
