Job summary

PT Freeport Indonesia Inc. is seeking an Engineer UG Geotech to support underground mines. You will direct design, support, and monitoring of geotechnical aspects to ensure safe, efficient operation of underground facilities and activities.

Responsibilities include inspecting ground conditions, evaluating support designs, analyzing movement, and providing action plans. You will also maintain geotechnical data, generate regular reports, and mentor junior staff in a challenging field environment.

Qualifications

• S1 degree in Mining Engineering, Geology or Civil Engineering with at least 2 years working geotechnical experience.
• Knowledge of rock mechanics and geotechnical engineering concepts from university coursework.
• Ability to communicate with field personnel, lead subordinates, and be energetic in field work.
• Proficient in English (spoken and written).
• Proficient with geotechnical software tools.

Responsibilities

• Meet the PTFI Safety and Environmental Programs and standards.
• Inspect and analyze ground condition for new development heading to ensure the recommended support design fits with the actual ground condition.
• Evaluate and modify ground support design for new development areas using GSST tools to ensure lifetime stability of the opening.
• Analyze ground movement and damage progression as impact of induce stress or mining activity to provide action plans for safety and production targets.
• Inspect and monitor ground condition of GBC mine facilities and provide warnings and mitigation plans as required.
• Monitor displacement by conducting convergence measurements using geotechnical devices on drifts and working areas, especially in high-risk zones.
• Conduct geotechnical structural mapping and analysis prior to stopping to ensure stability and avoid dilutions.
• Conduct paste inspection and sampling to provide data on paste quality to ensure pillar stability.
• Update database for geotechnical data and reports so information is accessible and preservable.
• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports for senior engineers.
• Develop skills to adopt new technologies and methods to improve service and cope with new projects.
• Develop subordinates according to development plans.

Provide geotechnical recommendation and/or services to the PTFI Underground mines by directing the design, support, and monitoring of geotechnical aspects of Underground mine facilities and operations to ensure safe and efficient operation of Underground mines.

The key duties and responsibilities of this position are:

• Meet the PTFI Safety and Environmental Programs and standards.
• Inspect and analyze ground condition for any new development heading to ensure the recommended support design fit with the actual ground condition.
• Evaluate and modify ground support design for new development areas using GSST tools to ensure the lifetime stability of the opening.
• Analyze ground movement and damage progress as impact of induce stress or mining activity (blasting, production, etc.) to provide appropriate action plans, in order to ensure safety of the miners and to achieve production target.
• Inspect and monitor ground condition of GBC mine fix facilities (e.g. loading point, ore pass, vent raise, paste plant, office, and any mass excavation) and provide warning of unsafe condition and short/long term mitigation plan. Recommend re-support or repair of ore passes as required.
• Monitor displacement by conducting convergence measurement using geotechnical devices (e.g. tape or scanner) on any drift and working areas, particularly for complex and high-risk areas, to ensure safe and efficient operation of mine.
• Conduct geotechnical structural mapping and analysis prior to opening of stope to ensure the stability of opened stope to prevent stope failure and dilution.
• Conduct paste inspection and sampling to provide data of actual paste quality or strength to ensure the stability of pillar from primary and secondary stopes.
• Update database system for geotechnical data/information and reports/recommendation so the database is accessible and preservable.
• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly report for reviewing from senior engineers.
• Develop his skills and knowledge to go along with new technology and methods to improve the service to clients and cope with new project and case study in stope mining.
• Develop skills of subordinates following their development plans.

Minimum Education and Experience

• S1 degree in Mining Engineering, Geology or Civil Engineering with at least 2 years working experience in geotechnical.

• Have knowledge of basic theory of rock mechanics and geotechnical engineering from university course work.
• Be able to communicate with field people, lead subordinates, develop or train subordinates and must be energetic & willing to work in the field.
