Job summary

PaxOcean is seeking a Mechanical Foreman to lead technicians in propulsion system works, ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency on site in Batam. You will coordinate daily activities, manage manpower, and monitor progress to meet project schedules.

The role involves supervising teams, ensuring proper handling of components, and supporting inspection activities along with training junior technicians to boost performance.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in shipyard mechanical repair, propulsion, gearbox, and steering systems.
• Diploma or certificate in Marine/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Ability to read blueprints, technical drawings, and OEM manuals.
• Experience supervising mechanical teams in a shipyard or marine environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead and guide technicians in propulsion system works, ensuring safety and efficiency as per supervisor instructions.
• Organize daily work activities and allocate tasks to meet planned schedules.
• Ensure workmanship quality with proper handling, cleaning, and protection of propulsion components.
• Monitor on-site progress and report delays or issues to Supervisor.
• Ensure compliance with safety requirements including toolbox talks and permit-to-work conditions.
• Verify tools and lifting equipment are available and in good condition.
• Support dismantling, inspection prep, and reassembly with the team.
• Maintain proper housekeeping at the site and safeguard materials.
• Assist in preparing work areas and components for inspection by Supervisor, Service Engineer, Class surveyor, or owner.
• Ensure proper tagging, storage, and protection of components.
• Report safety concerns and equipment issues promptly to Supervisor.
• Support training and guidance of junior technicians to improve team capability.

Tasks and Responsibilities

• Lead and guide technicians in carrying out propulsion system works, ensuring tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with supervisor instructions.
• Organize daily work activities, assign tasks to team members, and ensure manpower is utilized effectively to meet planned schedules.
• Ensure all work is carried out with proper workmanship, including correct handling, cleaning, and protection of propulsion components.
• Monitor day-to-day progress on site and report any delays, issues, or abnormal conditions to the Supervisor.
• Ensure all team members follow safety requirements, including toolbox meetings, permit-to-work conditions, and safe use of tools and equipment.
• Check that tools, lifting equipment, and materials are available, in good condition, and properly used during execution.
• Support dismantling, inspection preparation, and reassembly works together with the team when required.
• Ensure proper housekeeping at the worksite, including cleanliness, organization, and safe storage of tools and materials.
• Assist in preparing work areas and components for inspection by Supervisor, Service Engineer, Class surveyor, or owner.
• Ensure components are properly tagged, stored, and protected to avoid damage or loss.
• Report any safety concerns, equipment issues, or work quality problems immediately to the Supervisor.
• Support training and guidance of junior technicians to improve team capability and work discipline.

Key Requirements

Preferred Experience

• 5+ years’ experience in shipyard mechanical repair, with strong background in propulsion, gearbox, and steering systems.
• Technical Diploma or Certificate in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.
• Strong understanding of marine propulsion systems, shaft alignment, hydraulic steering, and gearbox maintenance.
• Ability to read blueprints, technical drawings, and OEM manuals.
• Good communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience supervising mechanical teams in a shipyard or marine environment.

Education and Key certifications necessary

• Safety training (e.g., OSHA, confined space, working at heights)
• OEM propulsion or gear systems training
• Rigging and lifting certification
