Job summary

Hatch Ltd. in Australia is seeking a Senior Engineer, Bridge and Civil Structures to lead structural design across major infrastructure projects in the APAC region.

You will manage multidisciplinary teams, mentor juniors, and deliver high-quality engineering solutions for clients. Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Minimum 10 years' experience in structural engineering design.
• Experience in design/assessment of bridges, retaining walls, culverts, tunnels and gantry structures.
• Strong written and verbal English communication.
• Ability to undertake independent hand calculations and first-principles assessments.
• Fundamental drafting and engineering sketching for coordination and communication purposes.

About the Role

Our Bridge and Civil Structures team is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Engineer, Bridge and Civil Structures to support the delivery of major infrastructure projects across Australia and the Asia-Pacific region. This role offers the opportunity to work on a diverse range of transportation and civil infrastructure projects, including bridges, retaining walls, culverts, tunnels, gantries, and other structural assets.

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading structural design activities, coordinating multidisciplinary teams, mentoring junior engineers and drafters, and contributing to the successful delivery of high-quality engineering solutions for our clients.

Key Responsibilities

• Undertake structural analysis and design of bridge and civil infrastructure projects.


• Deliver design packages for reinforced concrete, steel, and civil structures from concept through to detailed design.


• Coordinate and review the work of engineers, designers, and drafters to ensure quality and timely delivery of project outputs.


• Prepare technical reports, design calculations, specifications, sketches, and engineering documentation.


• Perform engineering assessments, feasibility studies, and high-level evaluations using sound engineering judgement and first-principles calculations.


• Support project managers in planning, resource allocation, and delivery management.


• Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, client requirements, and industry best practices.


• Mentor and develop junior engineers within the team.


• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and technical excellence within the business.

Preferred Candidate Profile

Applicants should possess the following attributes and experience:

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.


• Minimum 10 years' experience in structural engineering design.


• Demonstrated experience in the design and assessment of:


• Bridges


• Retaining walls


• Culverts


• Tunnel and underground structures


• Gantry structures


• Other civil infrastructure structures, transportation and civil engineering assets


• Strong understanding of structural behaviour and engineering fundamentals.


• Ability to undertake independent hand calculations and first-principles engineering assessments for design verification and high-level evaluations.


• Strong written and verbal English communication skills.


• Experience preparing engineering reports, design calculations, and technical documentation.


• Fundamental drafting and engineering sketching skills for technical coordination and communication purposes.

Highly Regarded

• Experience in the structural design of:


• Reinforced concrete structures


• Prestressed concrete structures


• Experience working on Australian and international projects.


• Familiarity with Australian standards (AS3600, AS4100, AS5100) and design practices is highly regarded but not essential.


• Experience using finite element analysis and structural design software. Proficiency with SpaceGass is highly regarded.


• Experience with other structural analysis software such as Strand7, Midas, or equivalent.


• Collaborate on exciting projects to develop innovative solutions
