Job summary

Bilingual Community School in Bali, Denpasar, is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to support students across an assigned year group. You will work closely with teachers to facilitate learning, manage resources, and provide targeted support.

The role involves assisting with phonics groups for KS1, maintaining classroom displays, supervising breaks, and helping implement behaviour strategies. Enthusiasm and reliability are essential.

Responsibilities

• Support all teachers who teach your assigned year group
• Support students who are in the most need of learning support, depending on the lesson topic or a student's L2
• Move around the classroom, offer advice or support to students, and encourage them to be responsible and curious about their work
• Provide students with regular feedback during lesson time, giving positive praise when warranted and providing constructive criticism to allow students to improve their work
• Work closely with teachers to set up the correct equipment needed for the lessons each week
• Organise provisions and resources in advance, research and work with other teaching assistants to create new creative ideas
• Take responsibility for the classroom wall displays, ensuring they are bright and motivating and include a mixture of students' work, keywords of the termly theme and information about the topics that term, and separated zones
• Support the teacher with classroom management following the school behaviour policy and help the teacher to follow through with behaviour management strategies
• Make sure the classroom is kept in a safe and tidy condition throughout the day
• When teachers are absent from school, teaching assistants are sometimes required to teach the lessons for that day
• In some subjects, take a small group of students and teach them the lesson content as directed by the teacher
• For Key Stage 1 and reception take full responsibility for a phonics/bunyi huruf group
• Communicate effectively with the class teacher to fully understand the learning objective and the success criteria of the lesson, before teaching these breakout groups
• Teach with enthusiasm and energy, ensure all students are engaged and focused, and report back to the teacher about the students' performance
• Record student attendance every day before 9:00AM
• Follow the rota/schedule to supervise pupils during break and playtime, take assembly, and attend or conduct training for professional development
• During the school holidays, participate in camps, based on a scheduled rota
• Ensure all work is complete by the end of the working day (3:45) and consult with your class teacher to manage your to-do list effectively
• Each week, prep star of the week and reading log certificates
• Be an active participant in BCS school culture and take part in occasional school events outside of scheduled work hours

• Maintain kind and respectful relationships with students, balancing compassion and authority well
• Do not tell a student the answer, instead offer a few options or ask a thought-provoking question that will guide the student to find the answer themselves
• Look presentable and professional at all times, covering knees and shoulders and wearing the correct staff uniform
