Job summary

Accor Makassar Grand Shayla is seeking an experienced Engineering Leader to supervise the hotel's engineering team, recruit and develop staff, and ensure safe, reliable building systems.

The role oversees preventive maintenance, energy management, budgeting, and project delivery for HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire safety, coordinating with other departments to minimise downtime and guest disruption.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in hotel engineering or facilities management.
• Strong knowledge of building systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire safety).
• Experience in budgeting and cost control for maintenance operations.
• Proven project management skills with contractor oversight.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
• Knowledge of sustainability practices and energy management systems.

Job Description

• Lead and supervise the engineering team, including recruiting, training, and developing staff to maintain a highly skilled and motivated team.
• Assign tasks, manage shifts, and oversee daily operations of the engineering department.
• Provide technical expertise and support for maintenance staff.
• Oversee all maintenance programs, preventive maintenance, and repairs for all hotel equipment, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire safety systems.
• Ensure that all hotel facilities and systems are functioning efficiently and in compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
• Manage day-to-day operational issues, ensuring quick and efficient problem resolution to minimize downtime and guest inconvenience.
• Prepare and manage the department's budget, including controlling costs related to maintenance, energy consumption, and capital expenditures.
• Ensure proper inventory control of parts and supplies, as well as efficient energy and water management to optimize operational expenses. Monitor and analyze energy consumption, looking for cost‑saving opportunities.
• Ensure all building systems comply with health and safety regulations, including fire safety systems, emergency lighting, and building security. Oversee regular safety inspections and ensure compliance with all local, national, and international standards and regulations.
• Act as the key contact during emergencies and ensure the safety of guests and employees.
• Oversee engineering aspects of capital projects, renovations, and upgrades within the hotel, ensuring work is completed on time and within budget.
• Collaborate with external contractors and service providers as needed for large‑scale projects and technical services.
• Work closely with the housekeeping, front office, and food & beverage departments to ensure all guest areas and back‑of‑house operations are in optimal condition.
• Assist in setting up rooms, conference facilities, and event spaces when engineering support is needed.
• Provide timely communication and status updates on engineering tasks to hotel management.
• Develop and implement energy conservation and sustainability initiatives to reduce the hotel's environmental impact. Collaborate with the management team on environmental sustainability efforts, ensuring alignment with the hotel's corporate responsibility policies.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in hotel engineering or facilities management, with at least 3 years in a senior engineering leadership role.
• Strong technical knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire safety.
• Experience in budgeting, project management, and contractor management.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
• Knowledge of sustainability practices and energy management systems is preferred.
• Familiarity with local regulations, building codes, and safety standards.
