PT Batu Ampar Container Terminal is seeking a Business Development professional to identify opportunities in Batam's hinterland and shipping sectors. You will build and maintain a database of manufacturers, exporters, importers, logistics firms and industrial estates, and develop opportunities with cargo owners and shipping lines.
The role requires 3–5 years of experience in business development or logistics, strong networking and negotiation skills, and fluency in English and Bahasa Indonesia.
Conduct comprehensive studies of Batam industrial landscape, logistics corridors and cargo flows to identify potential business opportunities.
Develop and maintain a database of manufacturers, exporters, importers, logistics companies, freight forwarders and industrial estates within Batam and the surrounding region.
Identify emerging industries, investment projects and manufacturing expansions that could generate future cargo through terminal.
Monitor cargo migration trends, competitor developments and logistics patterns to formulate business development strategies.
2. Customer Acquisition & Relationship Management
Build and maintain strong relationships with cargo owners, shipping lines, freight forwarders, NVOCCs, trucking companies, depot operators and logistics service providers.
Identify and pursue new cargo opportunities, including containerized, breakbulk, project cargo and other potential business segments.
Develop commercial proposals and coordinate with internal stakeholders to secure new business.
Maintain regular customer engagement to understand market challenges and identify opportunities for service improvement.
3. Industry & Government Engagement (Optional)
Represent the company in local business chambers, industry associations, logistics forums and government engagement sessions.
Build strategic relationships with organizations such as:
BP Batam
KADIN Batam
APINDO
INSA
ALFI/ILFA
Customs and other relevant government agencies
Participate in seminars, exhibitions, and networking events to enhance the terminal's market presence.
Monitor local and regional economic developments, investment activities, trade policies and infrastructure projects that may influence cargo demand.
Conduct competitor benchmarking on port services, tariffs, service offerings and operational capabilities.
Prepare periodic market intelligence reports highlighting business opportunities, market risks and strategic recommendations for management.
5. Business Strategy Development
Develop strategies to increase Batam hinterland cargo through the terminal.
Identify opportunities to convert existing cargo flows from competing ports and logistics channels.
Support the development of new shipping services, logistics solutions and value-added services. (optional)
Work closely with Commercial division to formulate customer acquisition and retention strategies.
6. Reporting & Performance Monitoring
Maintain an active sales pipeline and opportunity tracker.
Prepare monthly reports covering:
New business opportunities
Competitor updates
Progress of strategic initiatives
Number of customer visits and stakeholder engagements.
Number of industrial estates and manufacturers surveyed.
Number of business opportunities converted into commercial discussions or contracts.
Quality and timeliness of market intelligence reports.
Customer satisfaction and relationship development.
Bachelor's degree in Business, Logistics, Maritime Studies, Supply Chain Management or a related discipline.
Minimum 3-5 years of experience in business development, shipping, logistics, freight forwarding.
Strong understanding of Indonesia's logistics industry and Batam's industrial ecosystem is an advantage.
Excellent networking, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
Strong analytical, presentation and report-writing abilities.
Proficient in English and Bahasa Indonesia; Mandarin is an added advantage.
