Job summary

Ajaib Group is hiring a Backend Engineer for the Money team to build and maintain backend services behind customer accounts and money movement. You will work on well-defined tasks, write clean, tested code, and grow toward owning features with guidance from senior engineers.

Qualifications include a Bachelor's in CS, 2+ years backend experience, and proficiency in Java or Go, REST APIs, SQL, Redis, Kafka, Git, Docker, CI/CD, and cloud platforms (GCP/AWS).

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain backend services and APIs for accounts, balances, transfers and payments.

• Follow money-handling requirements: exact amounts, idempotent requests, clear transaction states and audit trails.
• Collaborate on bank and payment partner integrations and daily batch/reconciliation jobs.
• Participate in code reviews and fix production issues with tests.
• Write technical notes and documentation; communicate progress clearly.

Role Overview

As a Backend Engineer in the Money team, you build and maintain backend services behind customer accounts and money movement, working on well-defined tasks with guidance from senior engineers. You write clean, tested code, learn how banking-grade systems stay exact and auditable, and grow quickly toward owning features on your own.

• Build and maintain backend services and APIs for accounts, balances, transfers and payments, following the team's designs and standards.
• Deliver well-scoped tasks from implementation to production, with unit and integration tests.
• Follow the rules of money handling: exact amounts, idempotent requests, clear transaction states and audit trails.
• Help with integrations with banks and payment partners, and with daily batch and reconciliation jobs.
• Take part in code reviews, both receiving and giving feedback, and learn from them.
• Investigate bugs and production issues with help from senior engineers, and fix them with tests that prevent them from coming back.
• Write clear technical notes and documentation for the work you do.
• Ask questions early, raise risks and communicate progress to your team, Product and Operations.

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience: 2+ years of professional backend engineering, including working on services in production.
• Languages: Solid in Java, Go or another modern backend language.
• Fundamentals: Good understanding of REST APIs, relational databases and SQL, and basic concurrency.
• Data & Messaging: Working knowledge of transactions, and exposure to caching (Redis) and messaging (Kafka).
• Tools: Comfortable with Git, Docker and CI/CD, with exposure to a cloud platform (GCP or AWS).
• Mindset: Careful, curious and eager to learn, with clear communication. Experience in banking, payments, e-wallets or another regulated environment is a plus but not required.
