Job summary

PT Ajaib Sekuritas Asia is seeking a Staff Backend Engineer for the Investment team to steer the technical direction of stock trading systems across multiple squads. You will tackle hardest problems around correctness, latency and reliability at peak volumes, while staying hands-on where it matters most.

The role requires 8+ years in backend engineering, strong Java/Go expertise, and deep experience with microservices, Kafka, Redis, and cloud platforms. A capital markets background is a plus.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in professional software engineering, with distributed systems leadership.
• Expert in Java or Go, with strong backend design skills.
• Strong microservices, observability, and performance optimization.
• Experience with Kafka, Redis, and both relational and NoSQL databases.
• Cloud experience on GCP or AWS.
• Background in capital markets or regulated environments.

Responsibilities

• Define technical direction and architecture for trading systems across teams.
• Design fault-tolerant, low-latency services and review critical designs.
• Ensure correctness of financial flows, idempotency, reconciliation and audit trails.

Role Overview

As a Staff Backend Engineer in the Investment team, you set the technical direction for the systems behind stock trading across several teams: order management, market data, portfolio and the integrations with exchange and clearing parties. You solve the hardest problems around correctness, latency and reliability at peak volume, and you make the engineers around you stronger. You stay hands‑on where it matters most.

• Define the technical direction and architecture for trading systems that span several teams.
• Lead the design of fault‑tolerant, low‑latency and secure services, and review critical designs from other teams.
• Set the standard for correctness in financial flows: accurate calculations, idempotency, reconciliation and audit trails.
• Plan for peak load and failure scenarios, such as market open and volatile days, and drive load testing and capacity planning.
• Identify technical risks early, weigh trade‑offs and drive decisions that fit business and regulatory needs.
• Lead investigations and root cause analysis for complex production incidents, and drive lasting improvements.
• Set and promote engineering standards for reliability, observability, security and performance.
• Partner with Engineering Managers, Product, Operations and Compliance on cross‑team initiatives.
• Mentor Senior Engineers and help grow technical leadership across the team.
• Stay hands‑on with implementation for critical components and complex problems.

• Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience: 8+ years of professional software engineering, with a proven record of designing and running large‑scale, high‑traffic distributed systems and leading technical work across teams.
• Languages: Highly proficient in Java, Go or another modern backend language.
• System Design & Architecture: Strong expertise in microservices, event‑driven architectures, reliability engineering, observability and performance optimization.
• Data & Messaging: Deep practical experience with Kafka, Redis, and relational and NoSQL databases, including query tuning and data consistency.
• Infrastructure: Experience designing and operating applications on cloud platforms (GCP, AWS).
• Mindset & Domain: Background in capital markets, brokerage, payments or another high‑scale, regulated environment. Strong communication, with the ability to influence technical decisions without direct authority.
