Job summary

Swaniti Initiative is expanding its Indonesia program and seeks an Associate for Energy Transition based in Jakarta. You will lead country-level energy transition work, coordinating research, stakeholder engagement, and program delivery across power, decarbonisation, and blue carbon initiatives.

The role combines research, analysis, coordination, and implementation support in a dynamic policy environment, with travel within Indonesia and close collaboration with the Country Lead.

Qualifications

  • Postgraduate degree in Energy Studies, Environmental Science, Climate Change, Economics, Public Policy, Development Studies, Sustainability, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 2-3 years of full-time professional experience in energy, climate, public policy, or related domains.
  • Exposure to power sector reform, industrial decarbonisation, blue carbon, or broader energy transition issues is desirable.
  • Experience engaging with multi-stakeholder ecosystems (government, industry bodies, think tanks, civil society).
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environments with initiative and reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct evidence-based primary and secondary research on energy transition issues to develop policy briefs and knowledge products.
  • Provide technical and analytical inputs to inform program design and stakeholder engagements.
  • Support translation of work plans into research tasks, field activities, and deliverables.
  • Coordinate workshops, roundtables, and stakeholder discussions with internal and external partners.
  • Track progress against outputs, identify gaps, and prepare high-quality reports and briefs.

Swaniti Initiative is an ecosystem builder working toward a sustainablefuture in a climate constrained world. It has a strong legacy of working inSouth Asia on supporting Parliamentarians and sub-national governments ondesigning and delivering interventions that respond to the climate crisis.Swaniti Initiative is now expanding its footprint in Indonesia and working onenergy transition efforts.

Swaniti Initiative is undertaking a comprehensive technical supportprogram focused on supporting the economic diversification of miningcommunities in Indonesia. Additionally, we are working on pathways inmobilizing public funds most efficiently in large scale energy initiatives. Andlooking to support the private sector in decarbonization efforts. Our work aimsto support the government of Indonesia in finding economic pathways on energytransition. It involves conducting comprehensive research, skills assessments,aspiration analysis, and demographic studies to inform key policymakers andsupport a just transition in these regions.

As our work grows, we are hoping to onboard an Associate for Energy Transition who can lead our work in country and support in fulfilling Swaniti’s vision.

Job Responsibilities

The Associate –Energy Transition will support the Indonesia Country team, working under theguidance of the Country Lead ,to advance the organization's work on energy transition and related sectors,including power, industrial decarbonization, and blue carbon initiatives. Therole combines research, analytical, coordination, and implementation.Responsibilities to support high-quality program delivery — translating programpriorities into on-ground research, stakeholder engagement, knowledge products,and implementation support. The Associate is expected to work effectively indynamic environment that may evolve in response to policy development andprogram needs.

Key Responsibilities

1. Research &Technical Support

  • Conduct evidence-based primary and secondaryresearch on power sector reform, industrial decarbonization, blue carbon,and aligned energy transition issues to develop policy briefs, researchpapers, and knowledge products.
  • Track national and sub-national policies,government programs, sectoral challenges, and emerging innovations andbest practices; take expert consultations where necessary.
  • Provide technical and analytical inputs to theCountry Lead for program design, briefing materials, and stakeholderengagements.

Ensure all outputsare well-researched, factually accurate, and aligned with program objectivesand internal quality standards.

2. Program Implementation Support

  • Support translation of program work plans intoresearch tasks, field activities, and deliverables.
  • Support program implementation through fieldvisits, stakeholder engagement, public-facing events, and coordinationwith government, civil society, think tanks, and other partners atnational and sub-national levels.
  • Monitor progress on assigned deliverables andflag implementation challenges to the CountryLead.
  • Adapt implementation plans, and deliverablesin response to the changing environment while maintaining quality and timelydelivery

3. StakeholderEngagement

  • Engage with diverse stakeholders — governmentdepartments, private sector, development partners, and civil society — togather insights and support evidence-based policy making.
  • Prepare briefing materials, meeting notes, andfollow-ups for stakeholder discussions.
  • Participate in stakeholder discussions in asupporting capacity.

4. Convening &Program Activities

  • Support coordination of workshops,round-tables, and discussions, including agenda-setting, logistics, anddocumentation.

5. Monitoring &Reporting

  • Support tracking of progress against programoutputs, outcomes, and KPIs.
  • Compile data into reports and insights; helpidentify gaps and evidence-based recommendations.
  • Prepare high-quality reports, policy briefs,impact assessments, and success stories in internally standardized,accessible formats.

6. Communications& Knowledge Management

  • Contribute to communication initiatives,including content development and public outreach to amplify policyinsights and program impact.
  • Maintain tracking systems and contribute tointernal knowledge management.
Requirements

Education

Experience

  • Minimum 2 to 3 years of full-time,post-graduate professional experience in energy, climate, public policy,or related domains.
  • Exposure to power sector reform, industrial decarbonisation,blue carbon, or broader energy transition issues is highly desirable.
  • Experience engaging with multi-stakeholderecosystems — government departments, industry bodies, think tanks, orcivil society — is an advantage.
  • Demonstrated experience working in fast-paced environmentsis highly desirable.

Technical Skills

  • Demonstrated adaptability to understand policyand technical topics and synthesize complex information into clear,actionable outputs.
  • Strong research and analytical skills, withthe ability to conduct primary and secondary research and translatefindings into clear, actionable insights.
  • Familiarity with Indonesia's energy andclimate policy landscape.
  • Effective communication in Bahasa Indonesiaand English (written and verbal).
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools andknowledge dissemination formats.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word,Excel, PowerPoint); proficiency in visual storytelling tools such as Canvais a plus.
  • Familiarity with government databases andpublic information sources.

Additional Information

Candidates shouldbe based in Jakarta, Indonesia , andshould expect travel within Indonesia to support program implementation andstakeholder engagement. The role requires close coordination with the DeputyCountry Lead and the broader Country team, and may occasionally requireflexibility beyond regular office hours to support time-sensitive deliverables.
