Job description

Kopernik is an exciting, cutting-edge organization that finds effective solutions to address social and environmental challenges. Kopernik engages partners from the development, public, and private sectors to advance products, services, and approaches that support underserved communities, as well as creative actors in advocating social-environmental issues.

Kopernik values action, getting things done, and being open and transparent – we have a professional and highly skilled team who are always looking for ways to innovate.

THE POSITION

Location: Ubud, Bali

Our Advisory Services team excels in design, implementation, data collection, and analytics, delivering fast, flexible, and world-class results. We provide expert guidance to corporate and public sector clients on innovative products and services for diverse markets, with a focus on social, economic, and environmental issues. We specialize in brokering partnerships across the public, private, and development sectors, leveraging our deep understanding of emerging markets and strong local networks in Indonesia and Southeast Asia to create impactful solutions.

Kopernik is currently looking for a committed Analyst of Advisory Services who will work with our team to provide professional advisory services to corporate and public sector clients exploring innovative products or services across multiple sectors, including social, economic, and environmental issues. This position calls for strong business development, client management, and market research and analysis skills to work with a dynamic and passionate team in implementing a wide-ranging portfolio of projects and partnerships.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Fieldwork
  • Prepare for and conduct interviews with households and businesses using agreed research instruments.
  • Support field logistics: scheduling, respondent recruitment, community entry and travel arrangements, in coordination with the project lead.
  • Flag issues in the field that affect data quality or safety, as they happen rather than afterwards.
  • Accompany clients on field visits and interpret between English and Indonesian as required.
  • Write up daily field notes and take part in team debriefs so that findings are captured while still fresh.
Market research and analysis
  • Conduct desk research on the socio-economic profile of specific locations in Indonesia and other developing countries.
  • Conduct market research on assigned sectors including water, energy, education, housing, agriculture, IT and health, and compile the evidence into clear internal notes.
  • Build and maintain the project's research databases, source libraries and stakeholder contact lists.
Data analysis and report writing
  • Clean, code and analyse quantitative and qualitative data collected in the field.
  • Produce charts, tables and slides that present findings simply and visually, following Kopernik's presentation standards.
  • Draft assigned sections of reports and decks to a standard that needs editing, not rewriting.
  • Propose recommendations grounded in the data, and be able to trace each one back to the evidence behind it.
Client and partnership support
  • Take part in client meetings, capture decisions and action points, and close out your own actions without being chased.
  • Draft correspondence to local partners, academic partners, donors and technology producers for review by the project lead.
  • Support the mapping of potential partners and stakeholders in new geographies and sectors.
Other tasks
  • Contribute background research, evidence sections and cost inputs to funding and partnership proposals.
  • Support monitoring and evaluation of Kopernik projects.
  • Guide interns on tasks you already know well.
  • Undertake other tasks as requested by the team and management.
Skills and behaviour
  • Excellent written and spoken communication in English and Indonesian.
  • Strong research and analytical skills, including judgement about when data is not good enough to use.
  • Clear presentation skills, comfortable presenting internally and to clients alongside the project lead.
  • Practical proficiency with generative AI tools to improve research, data analysis, report writing and proposal development, including verifying outputs and recognising when a tool is the wrong choice.
  • Advanced Excel/Sheets and PowerPoint/Slides.
  • Impact and data focused.
  • A can-do and collaborative mindset, comfortable with the ambiguities and demands of a rapidly evolving work environment.
  • Organised and reliable, able to carry several workstreams at once and keep the project lead informed without being asked.
Requirements
  • Degree in a relevant discipline such as development studies, climate and environment, economics, business administration or a related field. An advanced degree is preferred.
  • 1 to 3 years of professional work experience. A business consulting or market research background is an asset.
  • Experience in qualitative and quantitative research, report writing and preparing presentations.
