Responsibilities include strategy execution, applying reinsurance, maintaining knowledge, complying with underwriting standards, and providing expert support to identify issues and opportunities. HK market expertise is essential.

Qualifications

• 7 years of experience in insurance underwriting.
• Experience with risk profiling, pricing tools and loss models.
• Strong knowledge of HK market conditions for underwriting.
• Familiarity with underwriting systems and processes.
• Understanding of class-specific underwriting and reinsurance knowledge.
• Proficiency with Excel and departmental software.

Our client is a leading insurance company. Due to their team expansion, they are looking for 2 Underwriters who will support the underwriting activities and manage a profitable business portfolio. These new Underwriters are expected to handle underwriting new business and renewals of high complexity and volume.

Responsibilities

• Support the implementation of the team strategy to enable delivery of overall business targets
• Apply the reinsurance strategy in order to safeguard the portfolio
• Positively promote the department, division and company as a whole, in order to maximize brand leverage
• Contribute to the development of the team's business plan in order to maximize productivity and performance
• Maintain product, system and process knowledge
• Attend relevant product and skill courses and passing on relevant points to other staff
• Adhere to underwriting standards, instructions and good practice to minimize risk and maximize efficiency
• Provide technical expert support to the identification of issues and opportunities within area of expertise
• Establish strong relationships with stakeholders to maximize influence and achieve business objectives
• Demonstrate understanding and awareness of market dynamics and market cycle to drive and enhance business performance
• Continually develop expertise and technical knowledge through identifying and implementing appropriate learning and development activities
• Underwrite complex insurance risks in accordance with the business plan and the personal authority to meet business objectives such as terms negotiation and responsible for credit control in payment collection
• Contribute and influence in the review and analysis of the portfolio to identify progress toward business objectives

Requirements

• Degree holder with 7 years of working experience with substantial experience gained within the insurance industry
• Use of risk profiling and pricing tools and loss models
• Extensive knowledge of relevant market conditions for specific class/portfolio
• Good knowledge of relevant underwriting systems
• Thorough understanding of class specific underwriting and reinsurance knowledge
• Intermediate level understanding of relevant software, including Excel and other departmental software packages
• Strong knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements in Hong Kong, underwriting process and procedures
• Candidates with less experience are also welcome.
