About The Role

The Trade Captain will play a key role in developing and executing sourcing and centralisation strategies for assigned subcontracting trades, working closely with project teams, commercial teams and business units to understand current and future subcontracting needs, lead central subletting, and improve subcontracting effectiveness. The role requires a strong combination of E&M trade knowledge, commercial judgement, supplier-market insight, stakeholder management, and practical execution in an engineering, contracting, products, and services environment.

Depending on experience, the position may be appointed as Manager or Assistant Manager.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement sourcing and centralisation strategies for assigned subcontracting trades (e.g., MVAC, FCU / VAV / CAV, AHU / PHU, Electrical, ELV / BMS / PQM, Genset etc), considering project pipeline, trade-specific cost drivers, labour and material split, market conditions, subcontractor landscape, quality, safety and risk.
  • Establish and maintain preferred subcontractor panels for assigned trades, including market screening, pre-qualification, scorecard evaluation, panel onboarding, and phasing out of under-performing subcontractors.
  • Establish and maintain standard labour rate cards and frame agreements, adjusting for market movement, labour inflation, trade shortage, project location and site conditions, and verify with Commercial and Finance.
  • Lead central subletting for assigned trades, including work‑scope clarification, tender documentation, RFQ issuance to on‑panel subcontractors, quotation levelling with labour man‑day and material breakdown, negotiation, award recommendation, baseline setting and savings tracking.
  • Work closely with project teams, engineers, commercial and estimating teams to understand current and future subcontracting needs, provide early procurement involvement in project planning, budgeting, and input on reasonable labour rates and subcontractor invitation lists.
  • Manage subcontractor relationships and performance for assigned trades, including segmentation, performance review (quality, safety, responsiveness, commercial competitiveness), business reviews, issue resolution and risk mitigation.
  • Identify and develop capable and alternative subcontractors, including new entrants and cross‑BU sharing opportunities, to increase competition, resilience and value while protecting quality and delivery.
  • Own the subcontract commercial and governance process for assigned trades, ensuring commercial terms, rate‑card compliance, service levels, safety and quality requirements, and compliance are properly managed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Building Services / Mechanical / Electrical Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Supply Chain / Procurement, or a related discipline.
  • Professional qualification such as HKIE, RICS / HKIS, CIPS or CPSM, or equivalent would be an advantage.
  • Minimum 8–10 years of relevant experience, ideally quantity surveying or commercial / procurement experience within the respective E&M trades, with a strong understanding of the subcontractor supply landscape and best practice.
  • Hands‑on experience in subcontracting, central subletting, labour rate benchmarking, tendering and commercial negotiation in an E&M, construction, building services or maintenance environment.
  • Solid understanding of subcontract sourcing, RFQ / tendering, subcontractor selection, rate-card and frame-contract management, subcontractor performance management, procurement governance and compliance.
  • Strong analytical and commercial capability, with the ability to interpret labour / material cost breakdowns, rate data, spend data, market information and procurement KPIs to develop practical sourcing recommendations.
  • Strong stakeholder management, communication, influencing and negotiation skills, with the ability to work effectively with project teams, engineers, commercial teams, technical users and subcontractors.
  • Good command of English and Chinese, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and experience with ERP, Procurement system, Power BI or similar tools preferred.
