Job summary

Securities and Futures Commission seeks a Temporary Assistant Manager - Database Administrator to lead the implementation and ongoing support of a new database platform in Hong Kong. You will administer Oracle databases in production and non‑production environments, perform patching, upgrades, backups and DR, and monitor performance to ensure stability.

You will manage users and security, collaborate with cross‑functional teams, and handle ad-hoc projects as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
• At least 7 years of IT experience with strong database administration background.
• Experience in high availability, disaster recovery, backup and recovery, monitoring, and capacity planning.
• Hands-on experience with Oracle, MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL and MongoDB.
• Knowledge of data governance concepts and scripting in Linux environments.
• Strong vendor and stakeholder management in a matrix environment.

Administer and support Oracle databases in both production and non-production environments, including installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, backup & recovery, and disaster recovery.

Monitor database health, troubleshoot issues, and perform performance tuning and optimization.

Manage database users, privileges, roles, and security controls.

Collaborate with application, infrastructure, and security teams to ensure stable and secure database operations.

Undertake any other ad-hoc tasks or projects as assigned.

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline, with at least 7 years of IT experience.

Solid experience in database administration, production support, incident/problem management, and database migration.

Strong hands-on experience with database high availability, disaster recovery, backup and recovery, monitoring, performance tuning, capacity planning, and security management.

Strong hands-on experience with Oracle, MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL and MongoDB Database.

Hands-on knowledge of database, data warehouse, data catalogue, and data governance.

Experience in Linux and shell scripting.

Demonstrated ability to manage stakeholders and vendors effectively in a matrix environment.

A strong sense of responsibility and impeccable integrity is essential.

Good command of written and spoken English and Chinese is required.
