Job summary

Fairmont-Magsaysay Group seeks a licensed Chief Engineer to lead ship operations and maintenance. You will oversee a fleet, coordinate repairs, and ensure compliance with rules. The role requires active reporting, travel as needed, and leadership of offshore teams.

Ideal candidates hold an internationally recognized Chief Engineer License, 5+ years at sea, and 1–2 years shore experience. Strong English, meticulous reporting, and readiness for on-call duties are essential.

Qualifications

• Must hold maritime education with an internationally recognized Chief Engineer License.
• Minimum 5 years seagoing experience, preferably as Chief Engineer.
• Minimum 1–2 years shore experience in ship management or owning company.
• Willing to travel regularly as required by duties.
• Attention to detail; diligent in reports and recommendations.
• Proficient in English, both written and spoken.
• Willing to be on call 24/7.

Job description

Key responsibilities

• Direct and supervise a fleet of ships (dry bulkers and PCC experience preferred)
• Administer ship's planned maintenance program
• Attend and/or supervise hull, machinery and electrical repairs, routine and emergency drydock, class surveys and other mandatory and S&P inspections
• Supervise new buildings and attend sea trials
• Write detailed attendance reports (with photos and sketches) for management and principals
• Monitor ship performance and trouble shoot engine problems onboard as needed
• Authorize and arrange supplies (spares and stores), repairs and/or surveys
• Keep abreast of all IMO, USCG, PSC MOU rules and regulations and ensure that onboard personnel have a thorough understanding of the same
• Examine the qualifications of senior shipboard personnel, conduct interviews prior to joining and provide feedback
• Control budget and initiate sensible cost control measures as needed

About you

• Maritime education, with an internationally recognized Chief Engineer License
• Minimum 5 years' seagoing experience, preferably as Chief Engineer
• Minimum 1-2 years shore experience as Superintendent in an international ship owning or ship management company preferred
• Willing to travel on regular basis, as required by his/her responsibilities
• Attentive to details and diligent in his/her reports and recommendations
• Decent computer knowledge and is willing to learn new systems
• Good command of written and spoken English
• Willing to be "on call" 24/7
