About the job Marine Superintendent (Wet)

Responsibilities:

  • Provide support to the Marine Manager as required.
  • Offer necessary assistance to the Masters and crews of the company's vessels to ensure operations comply with company standards and international regulations.
  • Have a comprehensive understanding of the company's management system.
  • Effectively implement the company's management system in daily operations.
  • Assist in developing new procedures or revising existing ones.
  • Promote and support initiatives focused on continuous improvement.
  • Ensure that company policies, standards, procedures, and the management system are correctly applied on assigned vessels.
  • Make sure the company's vessels meet client expectations and are always prepared for third-party inspections.
  • Attend vessels during inspections and offer support when needed.
  • Conduct regular marine visits, ensuring any issues raised are promptly addressed in collaboration with other departments.
  • Perform internal audits in line with relevant procedures.
  • Promote energy efficiency, environmental awareness, and a strong health, safety, and security culture across the fleet.
  • Assist Masters in applying bridge procedures and navigational practices according to company and regulatory standards, maintaining high levels of safety, environmental protection, and energy efficiency.
  • Support Masters in enforcing stringent standards for planning, monitoring, and executing cargo operations to ensure ship and crew safety, environmental preservation, and energy efficiency.
  • Identify training needs during marine visits and provide training where possible.
  • Stay informed about charter party agreements and ensure Masters are aware of key terms.
  • Ensure vessels are supplied with the necessary nautical publications and navigation charts.
  • Track and follow up on issues identified during third-party inspections, maintaining documentation in the CAPE database.
  • Assist the Vetting Team Leader in addressing client needs as required.
  • Monitor Terminal Satisfaction Reports and Letters of Protest, ensuring timely investigations and implementation of corrective actions, with records kept in the CAPE database and updates provided to the Marine Manager as needed.
  • Conduct briefings as directed by the Marine Manager (if applicable).
  • Participate in interviews for potential Master or Chief Officer candidates, as well as those entering the organization.
  • Conduct investigations into accidents and incidents.
  • Handle projects or tasks assigned by the Marine Manager.

Qualifications:

  • At least two years of command experience at sea.
  • Strong knowledge of industry standards, guidelines, and international regulations.
  • In-depth operational understanding of the vessel types under the Marine Superintendents oversight.
  • Experience and training in internal auditing.
  • Expertise in incident investigation.
  • Background in risk management with relevant education and experience.
  • Skills and experience in marine inspections.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others and strong communication skills.
