Job summary

The Chinese University of Hong Kong is seeking a Counselling Assistant (Student Development Counsellor) to join the Wellness and Counselling Centre under the Office of Student Affairs. You will provide counselling, conduct risk assessments, and develop mental health programmes to support student well-being.

The ideal candidate holds a psychology or social work degree, has counselling training, and at least 3 years of post-qualification experience, with strong English and Chinese communication

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Psychology or Social Work required.
• Further training in counselling or mental health areas preferred.
• Registration or full professional membership with a recognised body required.
• At least 3 years post-qualification relevant experience.
• Excellent written and spoken English and Chinese (Putonghua) skills.
• Strong communication, interpersonal skills, proactive attitude and team spirit.
• Experience with university students is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Provide psychological counselling and psychotherapy services to students.
• Conduct risk assessments and crisis intervention for distressed students.
• Coordinate and organize educational and developmental mental health programmes.
• Develop educational and self-help materials and resources.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
