Job summary

EPAM Systems is seeking a Senior Java Backend Engineer to design, build and operate event-driven services supporting structured-products negotiation and trading connectivity. You will develop stateless Java microservices, ensure streaming reliability and observability, and deliver through GitLab CI/CD and Kubernetes with global collaboration across product, platform and support teams.

The role focuses on building Kafka-based messaging, implementing message routing, and strengthening reliability

Job description

We are seeking a Senior Java Backend Engineer (Kafka, Microservices) to design, build and run event-driven services that support structured-products negotiation and trading connectivity. You will develop stateless Java microservices, harden streaming reliability and observability and deliver through GitLab CI/CD and Kubernetes. You will collaborate globally across product, platform and support teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and test stateless Java microservices and shared libraries for Kafka-based messaging
• Implement routing, transformation and enrichment of messages between internal systems and external partners
• Strengthen reliability through robust error handling, schema compatibility and deterministic processing
• Build production-ready observability using metrics, logs and tracing to support fast incident triage
• Deliver services across environments via GitLab CI/CD and Kubernetes, supporting releases and operations
• Write high-quality unit and integration tests, participate in code reviews and raise engineering standards
• Integrate external trading platforms and venues with internal reference data, product and instrument services
• Support FIX connectivity where required for venue and platform integration

Requirements

• Deep hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot including dependency injection, configuration and Spring Security
• Strong knowledge of Apache Kafka including Kafka Streams and Kafka tooling such as Confluent Schema Registry and Apache Avro
• Experience with reactive programming using Spring WebFlux and Project Reactor
• Strong testing mindset using JUnit five, Mockito and integration testing patterns for event-driven services
• Experience delivering to Kubernetes with GitLab continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines
• Experience designing stateless microservices with clear API and event contracts
• Clear communication and confidence working in regulated environments and cross-region teams
• Nice to have Observability a nd security tooling experience with Micrometer, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, Splunk or HashiCorp Vault
• Domain knowledge of structured products, request for quote (RFQ), order routing and trade lifecycle events
• Database experience with Spring Data JPA, Java Database Connectivity (JDBC), Oracle or SQLite
