Job summary

Nicoll Curtin is seeking an experienced Senior Python Backend Engineer to join our Hong Kong team. You will design, build, and optimize robust backend services powering fintech products, with a focus on API development, transactional processing, and data integrity in a demanding financial-services environment.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of professional software development experience.
• Strong experience with Python backend services and RESTful APIs.
• Solid understanding of database transactions, concurrency, and data integrity.
• Experience with PostgreSQL/MySQL and SQL optimization.
• Familiarity with asynchronous programming (asyncio).
• Experience designing maintainable, modular architectures.
• Proficiency with Git, CI/CD, containers, and production troubleshooting.
• Good communication in a cross-functional engineering environment.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and RESTful APIs using Python and frameworks such as FastAPI.
• Build reliable, high-performance backend systems supporting transactional workflows and concurrency.
• Design and optimize database models, queries, transactions, and data-access layers.
• Implement robust application logic with error handling, logging, testing, and security controls.
• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, concurrency issues, and production incidents.
• Contribute to system architecture, technical design decisions, and engineering best practices.
• Collaborate with product managers, frontend engineers, QA, and stakeholders to deliver features.
• Participate in code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD, and deployment processes.
• Explore AI-enabled capabilities in backend products and workflows.
