Job summary

HSBC Holdings plc in Hong Kong seeks a Senior Algorithmic Trading Engineer to build a scalable, low-latency trading platform across Asia. You will work closely with front-office, product teams and cross-border risk/compliance to deliver fast, reliable functionality.

You bring expert Java with JVM, Scala, deep equities knowledge, and experience designing distributed systems. Fluency in English and strong communication are essential, along with hands-on risk awareness and latency monitoring

Qualifications

• Expert-level Java experience including the JVM, GC, data structures and non-blocking IO.
• Solid Scala development experience or willingness to learn quickly.
• Deep knowledge of equities trading, order lifecycle, FIX messaging and Asian markets.
• Understanding of robust, scalable and highly available distributed trading platforms.
• Passionate about technology, solutions and continuous improvement.
• Know-how of risk management and regulatory environment.
• Fluent in written and spoken English with strong communication.
• Hands-on experience with algorithmic trading and low-latency execution.
• Knowledge of PTP and latency monitoring.

Job description

We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Senior Algorithmic Trading Engineer.

In this role you will:

• Building a scalable and highly-available algorithmic trading platform across Asia
• Making strategic decisions that affect the design and architecture of this platform
• Working closely with the front-office trading and product teams to ensure fast and accurate delivery of new functionality and improvements
• Liaising with local compliance and other risk/control teams to ensure full compliance with the letter and spirit of all relevant regulatory guidelines and requirements
• Constant communication with the larger global team: collaborative development, reviews and strategic decision making

To be successful you will need:

• Have expert-level, applied Java experience including the JVM, garbage collection, data structures and non-blocking IO.
• Have solid, applied experience with Scala development (or be willing to learn fast).
• Posses deep knowledge of equities trading including the order lifecycle, FIX messaging and Asian markets.
• Understand the design and architecture of robust, scalable and highly available distributed trading platforms.
• Be a passionate advocate for technology, technological solutions and continuous improvement.
• Understand risk, risk management and the role technology plays in this highly regulated environment
• Be fluent in written and spoken English and an excellent communicator.
• Hands-on experience with algorithmic trading and low-latency (sub-micro) execution platforms.
• Knowledge of the Linux kernel.
• Knowledge of PTP and packet capture based latency monitoring.
