Research Engineer (Mechanical Engineering)
- Develop and implement intelligent control algorithms for crane systems, including anti-sway control, automatic positioning, trajectory planning and load monitoring;
- Integrate sensors (encoders, IMUs, load cells, vision sensors) with control systems for real-time feedback and adaptive control;
- Work on condition monitoring and predictive maintenance features for crane systems, including fault detection and remote diagnostics;
- Participate in the design and tuning of crane automation and safety control logic, ensuring compliance with relevant safety standards.
- Conduct tolerance analysis, finite element analysis (FEA) and thermal simulation, and optimise designs based on results;
- Lead prototyping, assembly and debugging, resolving mechanical and process issues from design through to mass production.
- Develop kinematics, dynamics and motion planning solutions for robotic systems;
- Integrate robotic systems with perception, control and software teams, and support system-level testing and validation;
- Collaborate with electronics, software and industrial design teams on cross-disciplinary system integration.
Prepare technical documentation, test reports and patent application materials (where applicable) throughout the R&D process.
Requirements
- Hold a Bachelor's, Master's or Doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, Control Engineering or a related STEM discipline (the degree must be awarded by a local university, jointly awarded by a local and a non-local university, or awarded by a non-local institution with recognised standing);
Be legally permitted to work in Hong Kong for the duration of the RTH appointment (including Hong Kong permanent resident status, or a valid work visa approved by the Immigration Department).
Skills and Experience
- Solid foundation in mechanical design; proficiency in at least one mainstream CAD package such as SolidWorks / Creo / AutoCAD;
- Experience with FEA (e.g., ANSYS/COMSOL) or mechanism/motion simulation is an advantage;
- Hands-on experience in crane control, intelligent control systems, or robotics R&D (e.g., anti-sway control, trajectory planning, kinematics/dynamics, motion control) is highly preferred;
- Familiarity with control algorithms and programming (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, Python, C/C++) and industrial communication protocols (e.g., EtherCAT, CAN, Modbus) is an advantage;
- Experience with sensor integration, PLC/industrial automation, or ROS/ROS2 is a plus;
- Prior R&D experience in intelligent cranes, industrial robotics, or automation equipment is preferred; outstanding fresh PhD/Master's graduates with relevant research backgrounds are also welcome to apply;
- Good communication skills in English and Chinese (Cantonese/Mandarin).
