Metair in Hong Kong seeks a highly talented researcher to conduct independent research in sustainable resource recovery, focusing on advancing processes for recovering materials from spent lithium‑ion batteries. You will develop and optimise methods, study reaction mechanisms, validate performance with cathode materials, and contribute R&D leadership for potential scale‑up.

The ideal candidate holds an MSc/PhD in environmental/chemical engineering or chemistry, with MATLAB and Materials Studio

Qualifications

• MPhil or above in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering (with an environmental focus), Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or related disciplines. A PhD and relevant research experience are preferred.
• Strong knowledge of environmental chemistry or resource recovery; experience in related research is preferred.
• Proficient in MATLAB and Materials Studio, with the ability to apply computational modelling, data analysis, and simulation tools to support experimental design, process optimisation, and mechanistic interpretation of reaction systems.
• Ability to scale up production processes for industrial applications.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and optimise sustainable processes for resource recovery from spent lithium-ion batteries.
• Investigate reaction mechanisms and evaluate process performance under different operating conditions.
• Validate performance using spent battery cathode materials and black mass; assess product quality and the composition of solid residues for potential scale-up processes.
• Contribute R&D and supervisory experience in resource recovery, preferably with prior industrial experience.
