Location: Hong Kong
Industry: Manufacturing / Sourcing / Trading
Employment Type: Full-Time
We are a Hong Kong-based manufacturing, sourcing and trading company working with international retailers and brands, supported by manufacturing and sourcing partners across Asia.
We are looking for an experienced, hands-on Merchandiser / Developer to manage product development and merchandising across apparel and homeware categories.
The successful candidate will be responsible for taking products from initial customer brief and concept through sourcing, development, sampling, costing, order placement and production handover.
We are looking for someone who can take ownership of developments rather than simply coordinate between customers and factories.
Manage product development and merchandising across apparel, textiles, homeware and related consumer products.
Take ownership of developments from initial concept or customer enquiry through final approval and production.
Work directly with customers to understand product requirements, specifications, target pricing, quality standards and delivery expectations.
Develop new products and proactively source suitable factories, suppliers, materials and manufacturing solutions.
Research and identify new product opportunities, materials, constructions and manufacturing capabilities.
Coordinate sampling, materials, components, packaging, specifications and costing.
For apparel, manage fabrics, trims, garment construction, proto samples, fit samples, size sets and pre-production samples.
For homeware, manage materials, components, finishes, construction, packaging, specifications and product samples.
Review and negotiate factory quotations and prepare customer costings.
Work closely with suppliers to achieve required price, quality and delivery targets.
Manage development and production timelines and ensure critical deadlines are met.
Monitor sample submissions, testing, customer comments and approvals.
Identify development, quality, costing and production issues and proactively find solutions.
Coordinate with production and QC teams once orders move into bulk production.
Review purchase orders, specifications, BOMs, packaging requirements and other order documentation.
Maintain accurate development, costing and merchandising records.
Provide regular updates to management on development status, supplier performance, costing and potential risks.
5+ years of experience in merchandising, product development, sourcing or manufacturing/trading.
Strong experience in apparel/garments, with experience in homeware or other consumer products preferred.
Strong product development mentality and ability to turn a customer brief or concept into a commercially viable product.
Good knowledge of fabrics, trims, materials, garment construction, sampling and manufacturing processes.
Experience sourcing and evaluating factories and suppliers.
Strong understanding of product costing and factory negotiation.
Experience working directly with international customers and Asian factories.
Ability to manage multiple developments, customers and suppliers simultaneously.
Strong problem-solving, follow-up and organisational skills.
Commercially minded with strong attention to detail.
Able to work independently and take ownership of projects.
Good written and spoken English.
Cantonese and/or Mandarin strongly preferred.
Experience working with factories across China and other Asian manufacturing countries is an advantage.
We are looking for someone who is a developer as much as a merchandiser.
The right person should be comfortable receiving a product idea, reference sample, sketch or customer brief and then taking responsibility for finding the right supplier, developing the product, negotiating the costing, managing samples and getting the product ready for production.
They should be proactive, commercially minded and comfortable pushing suppliers, solving problems and finding alternative solutions when something is not working.
Because we work across both apparel and homeware, the candidate should be versatile, curious and comfortable developing products across different materials and manufacturing processes.
This is a hands-on position with significant responsibility and direct involvement in both customers and suppliers.
