Heptagon Photonics Pte Ltd. is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer specializing in AOI and product integration at our Singapore operation center.
The role focuses on developing, optimizing, and sustaining AOI recipes, defect detection, and inspection performance while coordinating with production, quality, equipment, and R&D teams. You will lead the analysis of process flows, conduct initial issue assessments, and drive corrective actions to improve yield and quality across high‑volume
The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for developing, implementing, and optimizing manufacturing processes to ensure efficient production, high quality, and cost-effectiveness. This role involves close collaboration with production, quality, equipment, and product engineering teams to support product introduction, continuous improvement, and scaling to high-volume manufacturing. This position has dual responsibility for the Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) process and product integration. As the AOI process owner, the engineer develops, optimizes, and sustains AOI inspection recipes, defect detection capability, inspection accuracy, and equipment performance. As the Product Integration Engineer for the assigned product, the engineer must understand the complete manufacturing process flow and product requirements, conduct the initial analysis when product issues occur, identify the most likely process or functional area involved, and coordinate the responsible process Manufacturing Engineer for detailed investigation and corrective action. This position will be based in the Heptagon Photonics Singapore operation center.
Develop, implement, optimize, and sustain AOI processes, inspection recipes, algorithms, lighting, optics, focus, image acquisition, defect classification, and acceptance criteria for assigned products.
Improve AOI detection capability, inspection accuracy, repeatability, false-call rate, escape rate, throughput, and equipment utilization while meeting product quality requirements.
Establish and maintain AOI golden samples, defect libraries, recipe controls, inspection standards, correlation methods, and change control requirements.
Conduct AOI recipe qualification, measurement correlation, capability studies, DOE, and validation for new products, process changes, equipment upgrades, and production transfers.
Troubleshoot AOI equipment, software, image quality, recipe, alignment, handling, and inspection issues in collaboration with equipment, maintenance, quality, and supplier teams.
Analyse AOI and defect data, identify trends and recurring issues, and work with relevant process owners to reduce defects, improve yield, and prevent quality escapes.
Understand the complete manufacturing process flow, key process parameters, product specifications, critical-to-quality characteristics, inspection gates, and process interactions for the assigned product.
When a product issue or yield excursion occurs, perform the initial technical assessment using process history, inspection results, defect patterns, equipment data, and product traceability to identify the likely source or process area.
Coordinate the relevant process Manufacturing Engineer, Quality, Production, Equipment, R&D, and other functions for detailed root cause analysis, containment, corrective action, and effectiveness verification.
Lead or support cross-process troubleshooting for issues that involve multiple manufacturing steps or cannot be attributed immediately to a single process.
Bachelor's degree or above in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Manufacturing Engineering, Optics, or related fields.
Minimum 3 years of hands‑on experience in AOI, machine vision, optical inspection, product engineering, product integration, process integration, or related manufacturing process development and sustaining operations, preferably in optics, semiconductor, MEMS, microelectronics, or precision manufacturing industries.
Hands‑on experience with AOI or machine vision systems, including recipe setup, lighting, optics, image acquisition, defect detection, classification, and inspection optimisation.
Strong understanding of defect mechanisms, inspection correlation, false calls, escapes, golden samples, defect libraries, and inspection capability validation.
Ability to understand complete product manufacturing flows, process interactions, critical process parameters, specifications, quality gates, and product traceability.
Ability to conduct initial product issue analysis, narrow down the likely process area, and coordinate responsible process engineers for detailed investigation.
Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, inspection images, process data, yield trends, equipment logs, and failure analysis results.
Familiarity with DOE, SPC, FMEA, control plans, capability analysis, 8D, RCA, and CAPA.
Strong analytical problem‑solving, documentation discipline, project coordination, and cross‑functional communication skills.
This position is based in the Heptagon Photonics Singapore operation center, part of the Global Operation Center.
