Job summary

BIG Language Solutions in Hong Kong is seeking qualified, professional independent contractor interpreters for Over-the-Phone Interpreting (OPI) and Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) assignments.

The role requires absolute fluency in English and the target language(s), uncompromising ethics, confidentiality, and the ability to interpret in the first person while explaining cultural nuances when necessary.

Qualifications

• Fluency: Absolute fluency in English and the target language(s).
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to write simple correspondence.
• Ability to present information in one-on-one and small group settings to customers and colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Provide accurate interpretation for OPI (phone) and VRI (video) assignments.
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to interpreter ethics and code of conduct.
• Interpret in the first person and disclose necessary clarifications to ensure accuracy.
• Demonstrate cultural awareness and adapt explanations as needed.

Contract Rate: Hourly

• Faithful Interpretation: Facilitate accurate communication by faithfully interpreting into the target language everything being said without adding, omitting, or changing anything.
• Impartiality: Maintain absolute impartiality and show no bias or preference toward either party while interpreting.
• First-Person Delivery & Ethics: Interpret in the first person at all times. Clarify meaning when necessary (while informing both parties), maintain the highest level of confidentiality, and strictly abide by the interpreter's code of ethics.
• Cultural Awareness: Maintain a strong awareness of your own culture and other cultures encountered during your duties, professionally explaining any cultural differences when appropriate.
• Professional Development & Service: Preserve the highest level of proficiency by continuously improving your interpreting skills and ethical performance. Demonstrate top-tier customer service toward our clients and their end-users at all times.

(Other duties may be assigned as needed).

To perform this role successfully, an individual must be able to complete each essential duty satisfactorily.
