Job summary

Cross Industry Climate Group in Hong Kong seeks a senior sustainability professional to lead and drive environmental protection initiatives within the construction sector. You will coordinate with government bodies, industry peers, and researchers to promote green technologies and ESG compliance.

The role involves managing carbon neutrality projects, data-driven reporting, and organizing major industry events to advance sustainable construction practices.

Qualifications

• Recognized degree required; post-graduate/professional qualifications encouraged in environmental disciplines.
• Minimum 12 years relevant experience (8 years for Assistant Manager) with track record in sustainability and carbon neutrality.
• Strong knowledge of sustainability, ESG standards, and green building concepts; IT competency a plus.

Responsibilities

• Support Senior Manager in promoting environmental protection and sustainable development in construction; aim to reduce carbon emissions and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
• Liaise with government departments and industry stakeholders; coordinate research on green construction technologies and sustainability developments.
• Manage projects within the department including carbon neutrality initiatives, CIC Sustainable Finance Certification Scheme, CIC Carbon Assessment Tool, and R&D projects.
• Organise events such as the Global Construction Sustainability Forum and CIC Sustainable Construction Award; lead programs to enhance industry environmental performance.

Job description

The applicant must possess

1. a recognized degree, preferably with post-graduate and/or professional qualifications in environmental engineering, environmental management/science, buildings and construction, ESG/sustainability or related disciplines;
2. a minimum of 12 years relevant experience (8 years for Assistant Manager level), with substantial post-qualification experience gained from government, property developers, contractors, consultants or statutory bodies, and a proven track record in sustainability, carbon neutrality, ESG and green building projects;
3. strong knowledge of sustainability and environmental management, including carbon assessment, green construction, green finance, green technology, ESG standards and disclosure requirements (e.g. HKEX ESG Reporting Code, IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards and GRI Standards), with IT competency being an advantage;
4. ability to develop and implement sustainability strategies and action plans, manage projects independently, and translate ESG and carbon-related data into actionable management insights with quality and timely delivery;
5. experience in ESG and carbon data management, including digitalisation of data collection, validation, analysis and reporting processes, as well as green building certification or environmental assessment projects professional qualifications such as BEAM Pro or LEED AP are preferred;
6. strong stakeholder engagement and networking capabilities, with the ability to build effective working relationships with government authorities, industry practitioners and other stakeholders to promote environmental and sustainability best practices;
7. excellent organisational, interpersonal, leadership and communication skills proactive, responsible, able to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, with excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese.

Duties include

1. to support Senior Manager in promoting and driving environmental protection and sustainable development in the construction industry, with a view to reducing carbon emissions and attaining carbon neutrality before 2050
2. to liaise with government departments and industry stakeholders, and co-ordinate research on green construction technologies and the latest developments in environmental protection and sustainability, with a view to encouraging the adoption of innovative technologies, standards and market practices in the construction industry
3. to manage projects under the department including carbon neutrality for the industry, CIC Sustainable Finance Certification Scheme, CIC Carbon Assessment Tool, corporate sustainability and other R&D projects
4. to organise the Global Construction Sustainability Forum, CIC Sustainable Construction Award, conferences and other industry events
5. to develop ideas and organise programmes to enhance the environmental and sustainability performance of the construction industry, including (a) industry collaboration and benchmarking, (b) promotion and publicity, (c) education and training, and (d) big data collection and carbon emission analytics
6. to speak and participate in activities on behalf of CIC to promote CIC's sustainability initiatives
7. to provide secretarial support to the Committee on Environment of CIC and its working groups, and to implement the decisions and recommendations of the Committee and
8. to carry out any other duties as assigned from time to time by the Executive Director.
