Job summary

SP Data Centres in Hong Kong is seeking an experienced Health & Safety Manager to provide client-side EHS assurance on a major data centre construction and commissioning project. The role covers live environments, HV electrical systems, generators, MEP works and energisation activities within a hyperscale data centre context.

The successful candidate will lead HSE planning, risk assessment and incident investigations, ensuring compliance with Hong Kong legislation and ISO 45001 principles.

Qualifications

• Extensive construction EHS experience, client-side or independent assurance role preferred.
• Experience on data centre, hyperscale or mission-critical projects.
• Live/operational environment exposure is required.
• Strong knowledge of HK H&S legislation and construction safety.
• Relevant degree/diploma and NEBOSH/IOSH qualification.

Responsibilities

• Provide client-side EHS assurance throughout construction, commissioning and handover.
• Monitor contractor EHS performance and project requirements.
• Review H&S management plans, RAMS/MOPs, risk assessments and LOTO arrangements.
• Lead/undertake High-Risk Activity assessments and site inspections.
• Identify significant risks and elevated controls; escalate issues.
• Provide assurance across electrical works, HV systems, lifting and works at height.
• Coordinate EHS controls around live or adjacent operational areas.
• Support incident investigations and corrective actions.
• Contribute to Safety in Design, planning and commissioning readiness.
• Produce weekly/monthly EHS reporting and maintain records.
• Support testing, energisation and final handover.

About the Opportunity

A confidential international data centre organisation is seeking an experienced Health & Safety Manager to provide client-side EHS assurance on a major data centre construction and commissioning project in Hong Kong.

The project involves significant construction and MEP works within an operational/live data centre environment, including data halls, generators, HV electrical systems, cooling infrastructure and associated commissioning and energisation activities.

This is a high-profile opportunity for an experienced EHS professional with strong data centre, mission‑critical or hyperscale construction experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide client-side EHS assurance throughout construction, commissioning, energisation and handover.
• Monitor contractor and subcontractor EHS performance and implementation of project requirements.
• Review H&S management plans, RAMS/MOPs, risk assessments, lifting plans, LOTO arrangements, permits and emergency plans.
• Lead/undertake High-Risk Activity (HRA) Critical Control Assessments and regular site inspections.
• Identify and elevate significant risks, ineffective controls and recurring issues.
• Provide assurance across electrical works, HV systems, lifting, work at height, hot works, confined spaces, temporary works and other high‑risk activities.
• Coordinate EHS controls associated with working within or adjacent to live operational areas.
• Support incident investigations, root-cause analysis and corrective‑action close‑out.
• Participate in Safety in Design, planning, coordination and commissioning readiness activities.
• Produce weekly/monthly EHS reporting and maintain accurate assurance records.
• Support testing, commissioning, energisation, operational readiness and final project handover.

Candidate Requirements

• Extensive construction EHS experience, preferably in a client-side, PMC or independent assurance role.
• Proven experience on data centre, hyperscale or other mission‑critical projects.
• Experience working within live/operational environments.
• Strong knowledge of Hong Kong H&S legislation and construction safety requirements.
• Relevant degree/diploma and professional qualification such as NEBOSH Diploma, IOSH or equivalent.
• Strong understanding of risk assessment, critical‑control verification, auditing and incident investigation.
• Experience with ISO 45001 principles.
• Cantonese strongly preferred.
• Experience with digital EHS systems such as HammerTech is advantageous.
• Strong stakeholder‑management, reporting and escalation skills.
