Admiralty, Hong Kong | Full-time | Corporate Finance & Investment Banking
The Role
We seek a senior investment banker with direct access to Mainland China corporate decision-makers and a credible pipeline of potential transactions. The primary objective is to originate and win fee-generating mandates for our Hong Kong SFC Type 6 corporate finance business, especially IPO sponsorship, M&A and financial advisory (FA).
Key Responsibilities
- Originate fee-paying mandates. Win new business from Mainland Chinese issuers, private and listed companies, shareholders and investors across (i) Hong Kong IPO sponsorship and listing-related work, (ii) cross-border M&A and takeovers, and (iii) financial advisory (FA) and strategic corporate transactions, within the Firm’s authorised scope.
- Activate PRC decision-maker relationships. Use established, direct access to business owners, controlling shareholders, chairpersons, CEOs and CFOs to introduce qualified prospects and arrange substantive client meetings.
- Convert opportunities into engagements. Own the origination process from lead qualification and feasibility screening through pitches, proposals, fee negotiations and signed engagement letters.
- Develop sustainable deal sources. Build repeatable referrals and long-term relationships with Mainland enterprises, PE/VC firms, lawyers, accountants and other professional networks.
- Partner on deal execution. Work with sponsor, M&A, advisory, compliance and execution colleagues on structuring, valuation, due diligence, negotiations, regulatory coordination and transaction completion.
- Deliver commercial results. Maintain a qualified pipeline showing prospect, deal type, stage, next action, mandate timing and expected fees; achieve agreed targets for signed mandates and attributable revenue.
- Manage risk and integrity. Observe applicable SFC requirements, client onboarding/KYC, conflicts, confidentiality and the Firm’s transaction acceptance and regulatory policies.
Candidate Requirements
- Personally attributable China origination track record. At least 10 years in investment banking, corporate finance, M&A or advisory, with proven ability to source and secure PRC-linked mandates—not merely execute deals originated by others.
- Live PRC network and pipeline. Established relationships with Mainland corporate owners and decision-makers, plus credible near-term prospects for IPO sponsorship, M&A and/or FA engagements that can be developed into signed mandates.
- Evidence of mandate conversion. Able to discuss self-originated deals, client access, engagement wins and commercial outcomes, as well as current potential projects, on an anonymised, confidentiality-respecting basis.
- Relevant Hong Kong expertise. Practical understanding of sponsor/IPO processes, the HKEX Listing Rules, the Takeovers Code and the execution of cross-border corporate finance and advisory assignments.
- SFC Type 6 eligibility. Qualified for, or capable of meeting the requirements for, SFC approval as a Responsible Officer for Type 6 (Advising on Corporate Finance). Existing RO approval and sponsor Principal experience are advantages.
- Education, communication and mobility. Degree in finance, accounting, business, law or related field; CFA/CPA is an advantage. Strong spoken and written Mandarin and English; willingness to travel regularly within Mainland China.
Performance Measures
Success will be measured primarily by the quality of the Mainland China project pipeline, signed IPO/M&A/FA engagements, attributable fee income and transaction progressagainst agreed targets.
