Job summary

Lumentum is seeking a highly motivated Engineer Staff, Mechanical to design, develop, and optimize optical communication products and manufacturing processes. You will lead mechanical design, perform FEA, and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure product reliability.

Ideal candidates have 10+ years of mechanical design experience in optics/telecom/semiconductors, strong CAD/FEA skills, and a proven track record in DFR/DFM and manufacturing process selection.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• 10+ years of experience in mechanical design and development, preferably within the optical, telecommunications, or semiconductor industries.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo) and experience with finite element analysis (FEA) for stress, thermal, and vibration analysis.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing processes such as machining, injection molding, stamping, and additive manufacturing.
• Experience with design for reliability (DFR) and design for manufacturability (DFM) principles.
• Demonstrated ability to solve complex mechanical problems through analytical and experimental methods.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design and analysis of new product concepts, components, and assemblies, utilizing CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo) and FEA tools.
• Develop and implement robust testing methodologies to validate mechanical designs, assess performance, and identify areas for improvement.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with electrical, optical, manufacturing, and reliability engineering teams to ensure seamless product integration and manufacturability.
• Conduct root cause analysis for mechanical failures, propose and implement effective corrective actions, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
• Generate detailed engineering documentation, including specifications, drawings, test plans, and reports, in accordance with company standards.
• Participate in design reviews, providing technical expertise and constructive feedback.
• Evaluate and select appropriate materials and manufacturing processes for various mechanical components.
