Lumentum seeks an experienced Engineer Principal, Mechanical to lead the design, development, and optimization of complex mechanical systems for optical products. This role drives advanced mechanical engineering from concept to production, ensuring robust performance, reliability, and manufacturability.

The ideal candidate has a Master’s in mechanical engineering (PhD preferred) and 10+ years in mechanical design/analysis, with expertise in SolidWorks, FEA, CFD, and DFM/DFR.

• Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field required; PhD preferred.
• 10+ years of progressive experience in mechanical design and analysis in high-tech manufacturing.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD (SolidWorks) and PDM/PLM systems.
• Expertise in advanced FEA and CFD tools (ANSYS, FLOTHERM).
• Strong understanding of materials, heat transfer, vibrations, DFM/ DFA/ DFR.
• Proven ability to lead complex projects and mentor teams.

Responsabilidades

• Lead mechanical design and analysis of opto-mechanical assemblies and systems for new product introduction and enhancements.
• Perform advanced engineering analyses (FEA, CFD, tolerance analysis) to ensure performance and reliability.
• Develop mechanical specifications, design docs, and test plans.
• Collaborate with optical, electrical, manufacturing engineers, and PMs to define requirements and troubleshoot issues.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance within the team.
• Drive selection and qualification of materials, components, and manufacturing processes.
• Identify innovative mechanical solutions to improve performance, cost, and manufacturability.
• Oversee design validation and prototype testing, plus failure analysis.
• Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in mechanical engineering.

Lumentum is seeking a highly experienced and innovative Engineer Principal, Mechanical to lead the design, development, and optimization of complex mechanical systems for our cutting-edge optical products. This role involves driving advanced mechanical engineering solutions from concept to production, ensuring robust performance, reliability, and manufacturability.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design and analysis of opto-mechanical assemblies, modules, and systems for new product introduction and existing product enhancements.
• Conduct advanced engineering analysis, including FEA (stress, thermal, vibration), CFD, and tolerance analysis, to ensure design integrity and performance.
• Develop detailed mechanical specifications, design documentation, and test plans.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including optical engineers, electrical engineers, manufacturing engineers, and program managers to define requirements, integrate designs, and troubleshoot issues.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance within the mechanical engineering team.
• Drive the selection and qualification of materials, components, and manufacturing processes.
• Identify and implement innovative mechanical solutions to improve product performance, cost-effectiveness, and manufacturability.
• Oversee design validation and verification activities, including prototype testing and failure analysis.
• Stay abreast of industry trends, new technologies, and best practices in mechanical engineering and optical systems.

Required Qualifications

• Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field; Ph.D. preferred.
• 10+ years of progressive experience in mechanical design and analysis, preferably within the optical, semiconductor, or high-tech manufacturing industries.
• Expert proficiency with 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks) and PDM/PLM systems.
• Demonstrated expertise in advanced FEA and CFD tools (e.g., ANSYS, FLOTHERM).
• Strong understanding of material science, heat transfer, vibrations, and precision mechanical design principles.
• Experience with design for manufacturability (DFM), design for assembly (DFA), and design for reliability (DFR).
• Proven ability to lead complex technical projects and mentor engineering teams.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and a strong analytical mindset.
• Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
• Experience with optical alignment and packaging techniques is a significant advantage.
