Cambium Grove Capital (CGC) is an Asia-based multi-strategy investment firm. CGC invests across venture and growth, special situations, real estate (including digital infrastructure) and select private equity, throughout the capital structure.
Role Description
CGC is focusing on opportunities in AI infrastructure, including AI data centers, neocloud operators (specialist providers that rent out GPU servers, the computers used to train and run AI models), digital infrastructure and the energy assets that power them.
The role is anchored in private equity. You will own opportunities from screening and due diligence through closing, and oversee them as portfolio assets afterwards. CGC prefers equity, using mezzanine financing (subordinated debt or preferred equity that ranks between senior loans and common equity) where it suits the transaction.
CGC invests across strategies, and this role does too. Under the guidance of the partners, you will also work on venture and growth and special situations opportunities as they arise, so a strong willingness to learn matters as much as existing expertise. CGC is a highly dynamic firm, and knowledge of other sectors is appreciated.
Key Responsibilities
- Screen and evaluate investment opportunities in AI data centers, neocloud operators, AI infrastructure and related energy assets.
- Lead technical, commercial, financial and legal due diligence, covering site selection and power supply, cooling and construction, GPU procurement and supply chain, and customer and offtake contracts (agreements under which customers commit to buy capacity).
- Build financial models covering project returns, GPU pricing and resale value, utilization, power costs and financing structure, and prepare investment papers for the partners.
- Structure equity and mezzanine positions, negotiate term sheets and transaction documents, and manage each transaction through to closing.
- Oversee investments after closing, tracking construction milestones, operating and financial performance, customer contracts and lender covenants, and report regularly to the partners and investors.
- Work with lawyers, technical advisers, accountants and tax advisers, and build relationships with banks and private credit funds that lend alongside CGC's equity.
- Support the partners on venture and growth and special situations transactions as opportunities arise.
Qualifications
- 4-6 years of relevant experience in investing, investment banking, project finance, or developing, financing or operating data centers, digital infrastructure or energy assets.
- Priority will be given to candidates with firsthand experience in data center financing, AI-related investments, or transactions involving AI infrastructure, neocloud operators or related energy assets.
- Solid understanding of how AI data centers work, from power and cooling to GPU servers, networking, construction and operations, and of how they make money.
- Working knowledge of energy markets and power procurement, including clean energy and power purchase agreements (long-term contracts to buy electricity); familiarity with the semiconductor and GPU supply chain is a strong plus.
- Strong financial modeling, valuation and structuring skills, with experience in equity and mezzanine investments and exposure to project finance.
- Willingness to work across private equity, venture and growth, and special situations, and a strong appetite to learn new sectors and transaction types.
- Fluent English and Mandarin Chinese, written and spoken; Japanese, Korean, Bahasa Indonesia or other regional languages are a plus.
- Strong educational background from a reputable university, ideally in engineering, finance or economics; CFA or a similar professional qualification is a plus.
- Holding, or being eligible to hold, Responsible Officer (RO) status with Hong Kong's Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) for Type 4 (advising on securities) and Type 9 (asset management) regulated activities is a plus.
- Excellent analytical, communication and presentation skills, with the maturity to engage senior counterparties and to work independently in a flat reporting structure.
