We are seeking an experienced and motivated Design Manager to support the delivery of coastal, marine, reclamation, and infrastructure projects across Hong Kong and the wider region. This role offers the opportunity to lead multidisciplinary project teams, provide technical leadership, and contribute to the successful delivery of ports, jetties, quay walls, seawalls, reclamation developments, coastal protection schemes, and other marine infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
Project & Design Leadership
- Support the Regional Lead in the planning, management, coordination, and delivery of projects in Hong Kong and, where required, overseas.
- Lead the development of engineering solutions, design concepts, and construction methodologies for coastal, marine, reclamation, and infrastructure projects.
- Perform and oversee civil, structural, geotechnical, and/or coastal engineering design and analysis.
- Maintain high standards of technical excellence, ensuring project deliverables meet quality, schedule, budget, and client requirements.
Project Management & Coordination
- Manage project teams and coordinate multidisciplinary design activities to achieve project objectives.
- Liaise effectively with clients, government authorities, contractors, subconsultants, and other stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
- Organise and lead project meetings, providing timely updates on progress, risks, key issues, and mitigation measures.
- Support authority submissions and ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
Technical Delivery
- Prepare, review, and approve engineering calculations, technical reports, specifications, drawings, and presentation materials.
- Participate in site visits, inspections, technical assessments, and design reviews.
- Manage and coordinate specialist studies and subconsultants, including site investigations, surveys, environmental assessments, and instrumentation programmes.
Business Development & Team Development
- Contribute to proposal preparation, tender submissions, and bid management activities.
- Support client development initiatives and help secure new business opportunities.
- Mentor and develop engineering team members, fostering technical growth and collaboration across disciplines.
- Promote innovation, knowledge sharing, and the adoption of digital engineering practices within the team.
Requirements
Qualifications & Professional Registration
- Degree in Civil / Coastal / Marine, or related Engineering discipline.
- Postgraduate qualification in a relevant field will be an advantage.
- Corporate Member of HKIE or equivalent professional institution (e.g., MHKIE, MICE, CEng or equivalent).
Experience
- Minimum 8 years of post-chartership experience in coastal, marine, reclamation, waterfront, or related large infrastructure projects.
- Proven experience in the design and delivery of coastal protection, reclamation, seawalls, breakwaters, revetments, jetties, piers, marine structures, dredging, ground improvement, or similar marine works.
- Demonstrated experience in multidisciplinary project coordination and stakeholder management.
Technical Skills
- Proficient in relevant engineering and digital design software such as PLAXIS, Slope/W, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, Navisworks, or equivalent platforms.
- Strong interest in digital engineering and innovation, including Python programming, numerical modelling, automation, and data analytics applications will be an advantage.
