Job summary

Intact Financial Corporation in Hong Kong is seeking a Data Scientist I to join our AI lab and help turn data into impactful insurance solutions.

You will develop machine learning models, collaborate with data scientists, software engineers, actuaries and designers, and contribute to our growing AI roadmap across Asia.

As part of a fast-growing, multidisciplinary team, you’ll have opportunities to lead projects, learn new techniques, and advance your career internationally.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science or a related field.
• MSc and/or PhD are assets.
• Internship or prior experience in data science, machine learning and advanced statistics solving business problems.
• Programming experience in Python or R, with knowledge of software engineering practices.
• Strong communication, collaboration and problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

• Develop innovative solutions using machine learning and advanced statistics to solve real business problems.
• Influence the AI roadmap of the biggest P&C insurer in Canada.
• Keep pace with new approaches and trends and apply them to your own solutions.
• Work within a multi-disciplinary environment alongside data science, software engineering, actuarial science, business and design teams.
• Share knowledge with interns and other data scientists to grow as a team.

What you'll do here:

• Develop innovative solutions using machine learning and advanced statistics to solve real business problems.

Here's what you bring to the table:

• A bachelor's degree in a quantitative discipline such as mathematics, science, engineering, statistics, AI, computer science or a related field. MSc and/or PhD are an asset.
• Previous internship or prior experience in the field of data science, machine learning and advanced statistics solving business problems.
• Programming experience in languages such as Python or R, along with knowledge of software engineering best practices or a strong desire to learn them
• Familiar with the underlying theory of machine learning (supervised, unsupervised and reinforcement learning)
• A commitment to be a great, collaborative teammate
• Unlimited curiosity and passion to challenge the status quo
• Ability to tackle vaguely defined problems with a creative approach
• Strong communication, time management, and organization skills.
