Job summary

Hitachi Rail Hong Kong Limited invites applicants for a six-month internship in the Research Technology and Innovation Team in Hong Kong. You will support prototype and software development with a focus on data preparation and machine learning applications.

The role covers prototyping, validation, and preparing production-ready code, plus tests and Docker deployment. Fluent English and a solid background in data analytics are required, with exciting exposure to rail technology.

Qualifications

• Degree in Data Analytics, Big Data, Machine Learning, applied mathematics, or applied statistics.
• Proficient Python with Pandas and NumPy for data manipulation and analysis.
• Knowledge of SQL/DDL and database principles.
• Experience with Git and Docker workflows.

Responsibilities

• Prototype, code, configure and test software in early stage projects.
• Contribute to system and software documentation.
• Define test documents, perform integration, verification and validation tests.

The role

You will be in the Research Technology and Innovation Team and support prototype and software development with a priority on Data preparation and Machine Learning application related requirement. For AI applications, we focus on time series and event data from fare collection and supervisions system.

The priority for this internship will be on building prototypes and industrialisation of prototypes. That encompass the creation of new programs, the validation of the results and documentation of the findings, the revision of code to be production ready, development of tests, and implementation in Docker containers.

Key Responsibilities

• Be involved in prototyping, coding, configuration, and test,
• Contribute to System and Software documentation,
• Define test document, perform integration, verification, and validation tests,
• Deliver software release,
• Perform software quality control

Requirements

• Degree in Data Analytics, Big Data, Machine Learning, applied mathematics, applied statistics
• Python and utilisation of existing package for data manipulation (Pandas, Numpy), regressions, time series predictions, clustering, optimization (scikit-learn, keras)
• Database principles, DDL and SQL
• Use Git, Docker (Dockerfile and docker compose)
• Fluent in English
• Data analytics, Machine Learning, Statistical and Mathematical knowledge is an advantage
• Candidates have to commit (Mon - Fri) for at least 6 months starting from March 2027
