Hong Kong Gold Exchange is seeking a capable Chemist/Technician to conduct testing and reporting in line with ISO/IEC 17025 and HOKLAS requirements. The role covers sample preparation, instrument operation (ICP-OES, XRF), data analysis, and maintaining quality systems.
Responsibilities include developing procedures, assisting audits, supervising junior staff, and ensuring safety and documentation standards are met.
Conduct laboratory testing and inspection in accordance with approved procedures, methods, and applicable standards.
Prepare test samples, calibration standards, working solutions, reagents, and related materials accurately and safely.
Operate analytical instruments and laboratory equipment, including routine maintenance, calibration checks, and troubleshooting where required.
Record, calculate, review, and report test data accurately in the required format.
Support updates to quality and technical documents in line with HOKLAS, CNAS, ISO/IEC 17025, and internal quality requirements.
Assist in developing testing procedures, method validation activities, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Maintain good laboratory housekeeping, chemical safety practices, and compliance with internal safety procedures.
Perform other laboratory or ad hoc duties as assigned.
Degree or above in Chemistry, Chemical Technology, Applied Science, or related discipline.
Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience in a commercial or accredited laboratory environment, including chemical testing, instrument operation, calibration, data analysis, and reporting.
Experience with ICP-OES, XRF, or other analytical testing and calibration techniques.
Knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025, HOKLAS accredited chemical testing requirements, quality systems, and internal audit practices.
Good analytical, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Well organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks under pressure; occasional overtime may be required.
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; basic statistical knowledge is an advantage.
Good command of written and spoken English, Chinese, and Cantonese.
At least 1 year of supervisory experience is preferred. Candidates with less supervisory experience may be considered for the Assistant Chemist/ Technician position.
Solid experience in fire assay and precious metal testing will be an advantage.
Experience preparing for accreditation assessments, internal audits, or method validation projects is desirable.
