Job summary

HKEX is transforming its risk data landscape. As a Risk Data Engineer, you will build data pipelines for risk analytics, leveraging Big Data platforms to empower Post Trade and Operational Risk teams with self-serve BI.

You will collaborate with cross-functional colleagues in a fast-paced, international environment based in Hong Kong. The role targets professionals with strong SQL, Python, and data warehousing skills, and offers a 12-month contract with a 40-hour work week.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience as a Data Analytics SME, BI Engineer, or Data Scientist.
• Experience in data analysis and statistics; capable of cross-functional collaboration.
• Experience with analytics on large-scale data in finance/risk domains preferred.
• Hands-on Python, VBA, SQL, ETL development and data warehousing skills.

Data and Analytics, part of the Clearing Risk Management, aims to empower the staff and clients of HKEX with the use of risk data, and to improve the efficiency and profitability of HKEX’s business with data-driven decisions. An exciting time lies ahead and we are now inviting an experienced Data Analytics / Engineer to join our team.

The position we offer:

As a Risk Data Engineer, you will help to drive innovation with our Big Data and Analytics Platforms, through applying various analytical and statistical techniques to drive business growth. You will help Post Trade department and Operational Risk Department to enhance the analytical processes in our risk framework, building data pipelines for business users and operational teams for self-service business intelligence queries.

Job Responsibilities:

• Work with business users to identify value-added opportunities through data analytics; articulate business requirements and design and implement suitable data solutions;
• Analyze large volumes of diverse risk data with our Big Data and Analytics Platform with appropriate analytics, visualization and data science techniques;
• Innovate, promote, and drive new data and analytics concepts across all areas in the department;
• Engage with the Chief Data Office to design and continuously refine risk data framework;
• Work closely with the operation and business to enhance the existing business use case;
• Optimize the existing workflow and use case to smoothen the process.

Job Requirements:

We expect the ideal candidate to have 4+ years of experience as a Data Analytics SME, Business Intelligence Engineer, Data Scientist or similar role. You should be experienced in conducting data and statistical analysis, able to work effectively in cross-functional teams and a constantly changing environment. Experience in developing analytics solution on data in the large scale and financial industry / risk management is highly desired

• Ability to independently influence and drive delivery, set clear expectations and roadmaps;
• Data driven thinking;
• Hands on experience of Python, VBA or similar coding languages;
• Demonstrated strength in SQL, data modeling, ETL development, and data warehousing;
• Understanding of statistical models;
• Experience in BRD and FS preparation

Ideally, you should also have:

• Experience in Financial Markets (e.g. exchange, brokerage, trading institution) and knowledge of financial products;
• Experience working in cross-functional teams, able to communicate effectively with both business and technical teams;

You will be joining a cross functional team in a highly international environment based in Hong Kong.
