Job summary

Alvarez & Marsal in Hong Kong is seeking an Associate for our Financial Services Industry Group to join a hands-on, senior-led transformation team. You will work directly with Directors, Senior Directors, and Managing Directors on strategy engagements, transactions, and enterprise-digital initiatives.

The successful candidate has 3–4 years in top-tier consulting or corporate development, strong Excel/PowerPoint skills, and the ability to present analyses clearly to senior executives.

Qualifications

• University degree in accounting/finance/economics/IT/management or related field.
• 4 years of experience in top-tier management consulting or relevant internal strategy/operations.
• Demonstrable track record in structured problem solving and financial analysis.
• Exceptional command of Excel and PowerPoint; data visualization experience a plus.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with senior executives.
• Experience in FS service offerings (growth, M&A, transformation, digital) is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Execute rigorous analyses and build financial models to quantify baselines and opportunities.
• Own end-to-end deliverables and synthesize data into clear presentations.

Based out of Hong Kong, North Asia FSIG delivers evidence-based decision-making and execution for Growth, Transformation, and M&A and Post Deal solutions that are enabled by technology and artificial intelligence. An Associate In Our Team Will

We are seeking an experienced Associate with 3-4 years’ experience in a top-tier management consulting firm or in-house corporate development team who is looking to become involved in a "hands-on" team. We want a team player with an entrepreneurial mindset who can excel in a fast-paced environment that encourages working directly with Directors, Senior Directors, and Managing Directors.

The successful candidate will have demonstrable core consulting skills including but not exclusive to structured problem-solving, quantitative and qualitative analysis, financial acumen, market and competitive analysis, and project management skills. The successful candidate will have a mastery of PowerPoint, and advanced proficiency in Excel. Experience working with Financial Services organisations including strategy engagements, transactions and deals, enterprise-digital and / or AI initiatives, change and transformation programs is a plus.

How You Will Contribute

• Execute rigorous analysis: Build complex financial models and perform deep-dive data analysis to quantify baselines and identify actionable improvement opportunities.
• Own key deliverables: Take end-to-end responsibility for specific project outputs, synthesizing complex data into clear, compelling presentations and reports.
• Drive hands-on implementation: Support the practical execution of strategic initiatives, such as target operating model design, cost optimization, or M&A integration.
• Lead client fact-finding: Conduct stakeholder interviews, map current-state processes, and build strong, collaborative relationships with client subject matter experts.
• Support workstream delivery: Partner closely with Managers to drive core project workstreams, proactively communicating progress and mitigating execution risks.
• Contribute to practice growth: Support senior leadership by preparing market research and materials for thought leadership and proposal creation.
• Manage expectations with engagement leads, and build trust through accountability.

Qualification

• University degree with a Master/ Bachelor degree or above in accounting, data science, economics, finance, financial engineering, information technology, management, or related disciplines. Attainment or progress toward CFA is advantageous.
• 4 years of experience at a top-tier management consulting firm or in a relevant internal strategy / operations / corporate development role.
• Demonstrable track record in structured problem solving, financial analysis, and developing strategic recommendations.
• Exceptional command of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, including experience with data visualization tools.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with senior executives
• Experience in one or more of the following service offerings in the financial services industry is a plus:
• Growth Strategy including revenue and pricing optimization, market entry analysis, and/or new business models.
• Mergers and Acquisitions (E2E process) – e.g., Deal Strategy, Portfolio Review, Due-Diligence (including Operational or Tech), Synergy Assessment, and Post-merger Integration.
• Transformation exercises around cost, tech & ops modernization, and AI enabled operations.
• Digital Growth Strategy including business case development (revenue generation and cost optimization), market entry analysis (specific Mainland China experience will be advantageous), and/or new business models.
• Leading edge developments including complex enterprise Agentic AI design and implementation
• Distribution channel optimization, including partnerships and target operating model.
• Business proficiency in Cantonese or Mandarin will be advantageous.
