About The Centre

Established in 2020 and incorporated by the University of Hong Kong, the Centre for Translational Stem Cell Biology (CTSCB) was created to support and drive the University’s innovation initiatives. As a leading research institution, CTSCB is dedicated to advancing stem cell research and translating scientific discoveries into real-world applications. Supported by the Innovation and Technology Commission of the HKSAR Government, CTSCB plays a vital role in generating economic and commercial value for Hong Kong. As a key player in positioning Hong Kong as a global hub for stem cell research, the Centre leads groundbreaking innovation in this transformative field. CTSCB is a collaborative initiative between the LKS Faculty of Medicine at the University of Hong Kong and the University of Cambridge, UK. Our proprietary Stem Cell technologies allow for the generation of all human cell types, both embryonic and extra-embryonic, enabling our multidisciplinary teams to develop intelligent drug screening platforms including identifying anti-aging molecules, precision medicine applications, and next-generation cell-based therapies. With state-of-the-art cellular systems and personalized disease models, we are accelerating the drug discovery process and opening new avenues for safer, more effective healthcare solutions. Position Overview

This is a strategic leadership role within the Centre, reporting directly to the Managing Director and board members. The Associate Director will play a pivotal role in driving the Centre’s translational research and commercialization agenda.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the daily operations in business development and corresponding strategic planning of the Centre under the delegation of the Managing Director
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure smooth and efficient operations in business development and strategic planning
  • Represent the Centre in showcasing our technology to potential collaborators and investors
  • Collaborate with board members and directors to shape research and translation strategies
  • Identify and develop translational research projects with commercial potential
  • Lead the creation of spinout companies based on Centre innovations
  • Manage business plans, including budget allocation and milestone tracking for project teams
  • Monitor project progress and prepare them for independent funding opportunities
  • Provide strategic problem-solving support for ongoing translational initiatives
  • Facilitate fundraising efforts as projects transition toward independence
  • Liaise with spinouts and external partners on potential licensing and commercial agreements
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Centre’s directors and board members
Job Requirements
  • PhD in a biomedical or life sciences-related discipline
  • Experience in the biotech industry, ideally as a founder or core team member
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and managing small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)
  • Strong communication skills in both written and spoken English and Chinese (Mandarin and/or Cantonese)
  • Established network within the investment and venture capital community
  • Strategic thinker with a value-driven mindset, persuasive communication style, decisive judgment, and a high level of professionalism
  • Strong team player with a collaborative spirit
