Job summary

Hospital Authority on Hong Kong Island is seeking an Assistant Social Work Officer for the Duchess of Kent Children’s Hospital at Sandy Bay. You will conduct psycho-social assessments, plan discharge, and provide counselling while coordinating MSS projects across the hospital and cluster.

Requires a Social Work degree, HK registration, and fluency in English and Cantonese. The appointment involves contract work with potential gratuity, and a salary range of HK$40,220–HK$88,971 per month.

Qualifications

• A degree in Social Work from a local university, or equivalent.
• Registration with and a valid registration certificate issued by the Hong Kong Social Workers Registration Board.
• Fluency in written English and Chinese as well as spoken English and Cantonese.

Responsibilities

• Provide psycho-social assessment and intervention for patients.
• Process pre-admission assessment and discharge planning.
• Render counselling service for needy patients and their families.
• Develop, coordinate and support hospital/cluster-based service and projects under MSS.
• Collaborate with health care professionals and community partners to assist rehabilitation.
• Contribute to continuous quality improvement and service evaluation.
• Perform other duties as assigned by senior.

Position :

Medical Social Services / The Duchess of Kent Children’s Hospital at Sandy Bay / Hong Kong Island Cluster

Pay

HK$40,220 to HK$88,971 (HGPS Point 16 to 33) per month including Monthly Allowance

Up to 15% of total basic salary (after deducting the contribution of Mandatory Provident Fund by Hospital Authority) as contract gratuity may be offered to contract staff at the end of each 3 years during the 9-year contract period subject to satisfactory performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide psycho-social assessment and intervention for patients.
• Process pre-admission assessment and discharge planning.
• Render counselling service for needy patients and their families.
• Develop, coordinate and support hospital / cluster-based service and project under MSS.
• Collaborate with health care professionals and community partners to facilitate patients’ rehabilitation and re-integration into the community.
• Conduct and participate in activities related to continuous quality improvement and service evaluation.
• Any job-related duties assigned by senior.

Entry Requirements

• (a) A degree in Social Work from a local university, or equivalent.
• OR
• (b) A degree from a local university, or equivalent and have successfully completed a one-year post-graduate course in Social Work at a local university, or equivalent.
• OR
• (c) A degree from a local university, or equivalent and have successfully completed a two-year post-graduate course in Social Work or possess a Master’s degree in Social Work from a local university, or equivalent.
• 2. Registration with and a valid registration certificate issued by the Hong Kong Social Workers Registration Board.
• 3. Fluency in written English and Chinese as well as spoken English and Cantonese.

Preferred Attributes / Exposure

• (a) Grade E in English Language (Syllabus B) and Chinese Language in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination, or equivalent.
• OR
• (b) Level 2 in English Language and Chinese Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education, or equivalent.
• 2. Working experience in family & children service / medical social service / paediatrics setting.
• 3. Proficient in interpersonal and communication skills.
• 4. Strong drive to help and utilize various social work approaches / therapies in patient care.
• 5. Empathy with commitment to patient care.
• 6. Ability to build internal and external partnership with strong team spirit.
