Job summary

Vocational Training Council (VTC) in Hong Kong is seeking a Teaching Associate to deliver fashion technology education and supervise student projects. The role includes coordinating regional skills competitions and supporting coaching for competitors.

The successful candidate will have a degree in Fashion Design or Textile Design, strong practical skills in pattern-making and garment construction, and fluency in English and Chinese for teaching and collaboration with industry partners.

Qualifications

• A recognised degree in Fashion Design / Textile Design, or equivalent.
• Teaching or industry experience in fashion technology is preferred.
• Strong practical knowledge in Fashion Technology, including pattern-making, garment construction, sewing, draping, and illustration.
• Good English and Chinese communication and presentation skills.
• Industry linkages with professional bodies would be an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Perform teaching duties and supervise student projects and fieldwork, placement.
• Coordinate and promote local and regional skills competitions; support competitors and review performance.
• Liaise with industry partners to provide assessment and training support for competitors.
• Assist in development of curriculum and preparation of teaching, learning and assessment materials.
• Support student and academic administration and coordinate VPET activities in schools and relevant organisations.
• Assist in departmental activities, projects and events including consultancy, research, seminars and exhibitions.

Major Duties

• (a) To perform teaching duties, and assist in supervision of students projects and fieldwork, placement
• (b) To assist in the coordination and promotion of local and regional skills competitions, and support the training and coaching of Competitors, including reviewing their performance and providing recommendations
• (c) To liaise with industry partners to provide performance assessment and training support for Competitors
• (d) To assist in the development of programme curriculum and preparation of teaching, learning and assessment materials
• (e) To support student and academic administration, and coordinate promotional activities related to skills and VPET in secondary schools and relevant organisations and
• (f) To provide support in departmental activities, projects and functions including but not limited to consultancy services, research studies, seminars and exhibitions, and participate in industrial attachments and related activities.

Requirements

• (a) A recognised degree in Fashion Design / Textile Design, or equivalent, or professional qualifications, preferably with a post-graduate qualification
• (b) Preferably with relevant teaching / industry experience in the fashion technology field
• (c) Strong practical knowledge and technical competence in Fashion Technology, including advanced pattern-making techniques, garment construction and sewing methods, draping, and fashion illustration, with the ability to apply industry best practices effectively
• (d) Good communication and presentation skills in both English and Chinese and
• (e) Good records of linkages with the industry / professional bodies would be an advantage.

• (2) Applicants with substantial experience and achievements in the relevant field but without the required academic / professional qualifications OR those with exceptional academic / professional qualifications but with less experience may also apply.

• (5) The appointee may be required to perform duties outside normal office hours in different locations as assigned.
