  • £46,670 - £49,887 per annum (pro rata for part time)
  • 37 hours per week - Flexible working options available
  • Fixed Term or Secondment for 12 months (funding)

Local Government faces significant transformation, which is why working in project management in our organisation offers exciting and rewarding opportunities. As a modern, flexible and effective organisation, we’re driven to make a positive difference to the environment, the communities we serve and the careers of our people, and our Growth Highways and Infrastructure (GHI) Directorate is at the forefront of delivering transformation and wide-ranging change for Suffolk’s communities. That’s why, when you join us as a Project Manager, you’ll be encouraged to share your fresh thinking and empowered to explore new ideas that will shape and improve our services as well as your career.

As a result of additional demand for project management capacity, we are looking for an experienced project manager to expand our welcoming change management team. Your work will make a significant difference to deliver important changes for the benefit of Suffolk’s communities.

Your Role And Responsibilities

The role brings the unique opportunity to be involved in delivering important and challenging transformation and wide-ranging change for Suffolk’s communities, which may relate to devolving powers from central Government to the region and setting up a mayoral county combined authority, climate change, Sizewell C, or sustainable transport.

In this role, you will take a lead role on a specific high-profile project - the Job Description Addendum provides some context to the areas of work that this role may relate to. You may also be involved in wider project and programme activity across the directorate as required.

You will work with the Head of Programmes and Programme Management Office (PMO) and service specialists to deliver effective change management. You will apply your substantial experience in project management by supporting service areas towards the delivery of project benefits, managing performance data, producing project and council reports and coordinating timescales and activities. Stakeholder management will be important, and you will liaising with a range of service areas, the general public, councillors and other stakeholders.

You will need

  • to be passionate about making a positive difference for Suffolk, be a team player, good communicator and be enthusiastic to manage change
  • to have significant experience in project management, and ideally should have, or be working towards, a recognised project management qualification.

You can view a full list of requirements in the Job and Person Profile (docx). If you believe you can succeed in this role, apply. Even if you don't meet all requirements, still apply. We would appreciate the opportunity to consider your application.

The team

You will be part of the small and very supportive team of the GHI Programme Management Office consisting of project and programme specialists, responsible for overseeing, delivering and supporting projects and programmes across the GHI directorate. You will be working in a matrix management environment, being based in the GHI PMO but having strong reporting lines to the relevant service area.

On your specific project, you will report on a day-to-day basis to the relevant service area. You will work with a wide group of professionals and stakeholders both internally and externally – depending on your project, this may include District and Borough Council officers, other county councils, transport and environmental specialists, and customers.

Empowering Everyone

We’re big believers in potential, possibility and the power of different ideas. We’re always searching for ways to encourage, respect and enable everyone to be the best they can be. We want to represent the diverse communities we serve. We welcome applications from all individuals, especially those from groups that are currently underrepresented in the organisation, as shown in our Workforce Equality Report (suffolk.gov.uk) .
