Job summary
A leading engineering company in Stockport is seeking a Control Systems Engineer to develop innovative control systems in collaboration with mechanical engineers. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in control systems design and testing, particularly for hydraulic machinery, and hands-on CAD experience. Excellent communication skills and a background in project management are essential. A competitive salary of £60,000-£70,000 plus benefits is offered.

Responsibilities
- Develop innovative control system solutions in collaboration with engineers.
- Check, review, and approve technical drawings and documentation.
- Prepare detailed technical documents including specifications and reports.
- Undertake the development, integration and testing of hydraulic hardware.
- Compile and maintain technical documents and test specifications.
- Interpret and apply complex technical specifications.
- Liaise with suppliers and represent the company in meetings.
- Provide engineering support to production and testing teams.
- Assist the sales team with technical input for bids and proposals.

Your role will be to ensure technical performance standards are maintained, to deliver control system designs that meet customer and regulatory specifications and to assist with design improvements.

- Develop innovative control system solutions in close collaboration with mechanical and hydraulic engineers and designers.
- Check, review and approve technical drawings and design documentation.
- Prepare detailed technical documents including specifications, reports, manuals and procedures.
- Undertake the development, integration and testing of hydraulic hardware and related control systems.
- Compile and maintain comprehensive technical documents and test specifications.
- Interpret and apply complex technical specifications to ensure system compliance and performance.
- Liaise effectively with suppliers and act as a company representative during customer review meetings.
- Provide engineering support to production, testing and field service teams to resolve technical issues.
- Assist the sales team by providing technical input for bids, proposals and quotations.
Proven experience in the design, testing and development of control systems, ideally within medium to heavy engineering environments.
Strong background in developing PLC control systems for hydraulically operated machinery or vehicles.
Experienced in taking projects from initial concept and specification through to production, ideally in a lead or senior engineering role.
Hands‑on 3D CAD design experience with excellent IT and analytical skills (MS Office and analysis tools).
The ideal Electrical Control Engineer will demonstrate initiative, creativity and have the ability to think‑outside the box. A strong team player with excellent communication skills with experience of managing people or project teams.
Knowledge of Siemens TIA, Codesys and a 3D Electrical Design package highly advantageous.
