Job summary

A leading engineering consultancy in the UK is seeking a Senior / Principal Manufacturing Engineer to lead the development of manufacturing capability for a nuclear defence project. The role involves managing teams, interfacing with stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. Candidates should have over 3 years of experience in engineering projects and strong knowledge of manufacturing processes. This is a full-time position located in Derby, with no remote work options.

Qualifications

Senior / Principal Manufacturing Engineer (Lead Engineer)

Your Future Team

As part of a growing account Assystem Energy & Infrastructure are looking to increase our Engineering capability to respond to an increase in demand for a new client account. We are therefore recruiting for a Senior or Principal Technical Lead for Manufacturing Capability.

As a Technical Lead you will be involved in developing an engineering capability with responsibility for managing and delivering manufacturing capability resources to support engineered solutions. This work is to support current and future manufacturing requirements for the nuclear defence sector.

Your Missions
  • Support development and growth of a Manufacturing capability within a growing client base.
  • Lead manufacturing teams in Requirements Capture and down‑selection processes for acquiring equipment and ultimately conduct Validation and Verification through to implementation of equipment to an Operational Plant.
  • Provide technical authorship within a Bid proposal process and Bid management experience.
  • Build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders including client representatives.
Qualifications
  • Demonstrable evidence (3yrs) of managing and delivering engineering projects in tooling‑related industries including experience in managing and developing multi‑discipline teams.
  • Strong interpersonal skills in managing manufacturing teams, excellent communication and ability to interface with multiple levels of internal and client stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing machining methods and ensuring processes meet manufacturability requirements. Knowledge of metallurgy of metallics and / or composite materials exposure to assessing defect criteria and using tools and techniques (LEAN Principles 5 Whys) NDE detection methods welding techniques and equipment acquisitions.
  • Awareness of PLMs (Teamcenter) and use of MS Suite to produce or check technical documentation providing guidance and mentorship to the Manufacturing delivery team and their deliverables.
  • Experience in estimating planning and budgeting for the discipline within a programme of work.
  • Able to demonstrate nuclear professionalism and best practices or experience in a highly regulated sector.
  • Working knowledge of regulatory compliance to Nuclear Industry standards with desirable experience delivering equipment plant and systems.
  • Ideally possess Nuclear industry or heavy industry production experience to support precision engineering‑related projects.
  • Experience applying current Legislative Regulations (e.g. Machinery Directive PUWER CDM Regulation) and respective Engineering Standards (ASME BS EN).
  • Good understanding of UKCA Marking (CE marking) Security and Safety Classifications QA / QC grading for equipment.
  • Experience working within the Supply Chain and a track record of managing suppliers as an Intelligent Customer.
  • Experience with full life cycle of equipment Construction Commissioning Installation and Handover processes is desirable.
  • Commercial awareness (engineering procurement and commercial models of delivery EPC / NEC4).
  • Project Management experience (quotation processes estimating cost‑to‑complete scheduling resourcing risk management reporting and presenting to stakeholders).
  • Experience in compliance with Quality Management Systems and Business Management Systems.
