Job description

Do you want to make a difference and be part of a vibrant and inclusive organisation that has been helping save lives for more than a century? As one of the country’s best-loved charities, St John Ambulance played a pivotal role in responding to the pandemic as well as ‘everyday’ health emergencies, training, supporting communities and improving young people’s lives.

As a Sessional Youth Support Worker, you will deliver 1.5-2 hour sessions to young people involved with the NHS Cadet Programme (with one additional hour for flexible planning). The young people we recruit will undertake a programme of health-related volunteering sponsored by colleagues from NHS England; these young people will be recruited from marginalised communities from across the UK. The sessions delivered will provide development to young people’s citizenship and will focus on a desire to work or volunteer in an NHS role in the future. You will work closely with a Project Lead and other Youth Support Workers to plan and deliver appropriate content and to adapt the delivery to the individual needs of the young people on your programme. The sessions will be delivered either face to face or at a partner NHS building or SJA building in a hybrid way or virtually during term time. Please note you will require flexibility to travel and work evenings/weekends where required.

We pride ourselves on being a great place to work, providing a supportive culture with opportunities to grow and develop your career, achieve a healthy work life balance and to be recognised for the great work you do. The role benefits from a competitive salary, generous pension, hybrid, flexible working, 33 days holiday (inclusive of bank holidays) - increasing to 38 days over 5 years, options to buy and sell holiday, free first/mental aid first aider courses, Blue Light and NHS online shopping discounts, cycle to work scheme, life assurance, flu jab, eye care, mental health and wellbeing tools and volunteering days.

About You:
  • Experience of delivering formal or informal training or activities to young people
  • Experience of motivating young people who have low or unrealised aspirations
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to tailor style to suit a variety of audiences
  • High levels of IT literacy with a good knowledge of MS Office and remote working tools
About The Role:
  • Support with the recruitment of young people onto the programme
  • Support the delivery of the NHS Cadets programme for young people
  • Act as a support and point of contact for young people enrolled on the programme to ensure they maximise their opportunities for growth and development
  • Work closely with stakeholders to ensure that the programme runs smoothly and administrative duties are completed accurately and in a timely manner
