Job summary

Teaching Personnel is seeking a Youth Support Worker for an SEMH secondary school in Oldham. You will build trusting relationships with pupils, providing 1:1 and small-group support to boost confidence, emotional regulation, behaviour and engagement.

The role focuses on helping pupils re-engage with learning, develop independence and resilience, and work with teachers and the pastoral/SEN team to provide consistent support.

Qualifications

• Experience with youth work, residential care, mentoring, or education.

Youth Support Worker - SEMH Secondary School
Oldham | Full-Time | Long-Term Opportunity

Are you someone who can build a connection with young people when others struggle to reach them?

We are looking for a Youth Support Worker to join a specialist SEMH secondary school in Oldham, supporting young people who may face emotional, social and behavioural barriers to education.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with experience in youth work, residential care, mentoring, support work, sports coaching, community work or education who wants to use their skills to help young people make positive changes.

The Role

As a Youth Support Worker, you'll become a trusted and consistent adult for pupils who may need additional support both inside and outside the classroom. You'll:

• Build positive, trusting relationships with young people and become someone they feel comfortable talking to.
• Provide 1:1 and small-group support around confidence, emotional regulation, behaviour and engagement.
• Help pupils manage difficult situations and develop positive strategies for dealing with their emotions.
• Support pupils to re-engage with learning and develop their independence and resilience.
• Encourage positive behaviour and help young people recognise their strengths and potential.
• Work closely with teachers and the wider pastoral/SEN team to provide consistent support.
• Support pupils during transitions, activities and different parts of the school day.

Who Would Suit This Role?

We're particularly interested in people who have experience working with young people or individuals with additional needs, but previous school experience isn't essential.

What matters most is your ability to remain calm, patient and consistent, even when a young person is struggling.
