Job summary

YMCA Robin Hood Group is seeking a Youth Support Worker in Nottingham to support unaccompanied asylum-seeking young people aged 16–21 in accommodation and to help them move toward independence, education or employment. You will work with residents to build skills and confidence in a nurturing, person-centred environment.

Qualifications

• Experience in supporting vulnerable or challenging individuals with diverse needs.
• Strong communication skills to build rapport and trust with residents.
• Experience in Supported Housing or understanding challenges faced by vulnerable individuals is advantageous.
• Be proactive and passionate about supporting people and equality of opportunity.
• Create a positive, nurturing and trusted environment and maintain professional boundaries.
• Understand asylum seekers' needs and services available to signpost to third parties.

Responsibilities

• Start your day at the YMCA offices, check emails, and liaise with overnight staff on incidents.
• Engage with residents individually and in small groups to identify strengths and interests, crafting constructive activities.
• Explore pathways with local providers to create volunteering, education, or employment opportunities.
• Follow your schedule to ensure regular 1-2-1 or small group sessions and consistent support.
• Organise and facilitate sessions that build essential life skills for residents.
