Job summary

St Helens Council is seeking a Substance Misuse Worker to support young people and families affected by drug and alcohol issues. The role involves engaging with diverse communities, coordinating with partner agencies, and delivering targeted interventions to improve life outcomes.

You will assess needs, plan interventions, and review effectiveness within a trauma-informed framework, building strong relationships with young people and professionals across services.

Qualifications

  • You must have experience of working directly with children and their families, proven experience in assessing needs, writing reports, planning interventions and reviewing the effectiveness of the supervision process.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of children from diverse backgrounds and work innovatively with them, engaging them and their families and other professionals to assess, develop and deliver interventions to reduce substance use harms.
  • Contribute to achieving positive outcomes linked to service delivery, including early identification of at-risk children and prevention of harm escalation.
  • Engage with young people with complex needs, build trusting relationships, and deliver interventions to encourage behaviour change.
  • Demonstrate safeguarding knowledge including Child Criminal and Sexual Exploitation and work across levels of need.
  • Work as part of multi-agency systems and contribute to young people’s plans at all levels of need.
